Is Your Mobile Internet Experience Meeting Your Needs ?
So I’m a WinMo user and have been for quite a while, and initially I couldn’t work out why some sites worked and some didn’t. Even the latest upgrades to PIE ( it’s a fancier name now) haven’t addressed the problems that I initially had, accessing sites that deployed more advanced code than simple HTML. I had to turn to third party browser plug-ins like Pie Plus, and then the Opera 8.65 Beta saved me a lot of grief. I can easily tell you that the first six apps that I can’t do without include the Opera browser, it is the best way for me to operate on a daily basis on the internet with my handheld.
Even then it’s not a perfect solution, and I still use the Netfront Technical Preview to fulfil some of my browsing needs as well.
Now iPhone users say that Safari works out of the box, and all of the issues that I have with WinMo are addressed, so I should get an iPhone to meet my mobile needs?
Is this what’s important to you on the web
So it sounds like there are a few problems with browsing the web on mobile devices: 1. People don’t know about the easy-to-use mobile-optimised sites, 2. Mobile browsers aren’t very good at making desktop-designed sites usable, and 3. Not enough site designers are making mobile-optimised versions automatically load on mobile devices.
Over at pocketnow Adam has linked to an article that seems to evaluate our mobile browsing needs, hate list is a better description.
Have a look at the article from WirelessWeek, and see if you agree with it, and let me know!

I use the same three browsers as you but I’ve begun to prefer Netfront because it gives you pretty much the PC size screen on the PPC screen. If I’m going to my bank website I’ve been there so many times on the PC I know exactly where to scroll to for the login area and to pay bills or look at balances. I haven’t found a site yet that I can’t go to with Netfront, unlike PIE.
On the other hand I use Opera 8.65 for my default browser for Newsbreak RSS feeds because it seems to be quicker than Netfront. I can begin scrolling while the page is loading where Netfron seems to wait for the full page to be available before you can begin scrolling to the story.
For plain old browsing of mobile sites, PIE seems to be the fastest for me.
All in all, things have improved significantly in the past few years.
