Samsung Instinct, a comparison with…

Inevitably it starts with an i, need I say more. Now I don’t know why everyone is still looking for that iPhone killer under every rock, or behind every new touch screen phone.

It’s not going to happen, no matter how Indiana Jones you go, the comparisons are just not worth making, why not just appreciate the device for what it is and get over it. Seems a lot of people can do that, take Ed Hardy’s look back in April over at Brighthand, where he gets a hands on and gives a fairly optimistic view of this new addition to the smartphone market.

Sprint will even allow this phone to function as a wireless modem for a laptop. In my brief testing, I found the browser to be fairly impressive, especially for a featurephone like the Instinct. It will offer portrait and landscape support,  and be able to reformat pages for its smaller screen. Samsung even added a cool trick: holding down the camera button and moving the device will let you scroll around in a web page, with the camera being used to determine how much the phone is being tilted.

Then we come to the comparisons, important or not, there are some features of the Instinct that may be the things that make it your preference over the iPhone.

This article over at Gearlog has a great hands on video, and although it’s not scathing of the Instinct’s features, it points out features like expandable memory, and a changeable battery.

Even Sprint are using the comparison as a selling point, with a whole heap of little video snatches. Whatever you think, it still looks like a handy device and should be available around June 20 from Sprint.
