The More You Say Goodbye, I Say Hello…
How many of you have ever moved from one city to another? Quite a few, I would be willing to bet. And how many of you have ever had the chance to move back to the original city? Well, that is how I feel tonight, my first official day back at Just Another Mobile Monday (and yes, I do know that we are not currently using this logo. We’ll have to take care of that soon enough.)
For those of you who do not know me, I was one of the earlier staff members here at JAMM (Brandon and Charlie were here when I came on board). Since that time, the site has grown immeasurably, we have undergone more theme changes than I can count, and probably a dozen staff members have come and gone. In fact, when I left the site a few months ago, I commented that this group of writers was among the best I had ever seen on any site.
Leaving the site last March was one of the most agonizing decisions I ever made. So, I was overjoyed when Patrick emailed me over the weekend. Not only did he want me to return, but he asked me to take over the site entirely. Frankly, I was stunned. I never saw this coming. Never could have seen this coming. My initial thought was to say I can’t do it. I am already the co-owner of My Today Screen, I can’t run two sites. As soon as I sat down and thought about it critically, it only took about 10 seconds for me to realize that I could not possibly say no to Patrick. First, he is my close friend and I knew he was very sick. Second, the staff here at JAMM is still one of the best I have ever seen. Third, and most importantly, this is JAMM. How could I possible say no?
So, here I am, the new owner of this site, and I feel like someone who just bought their childhood home. I want to thank Patrick for the trust he has placed in me. I know how much this site meant to him, and I have every intention of keeping this a place that he, I, and all of you can be proud to visit. I also want to acknowledge the fabulous staff here at JAMM, without whom none of this would be possible. They are all dedicated and enthusiastic writers, and I wish that I could pay them for all the hard work they do (don’t get your hopes up just yet, guys.)
So, that brings us to today. Here I am, the new owner of one of my favorite sites on the web, and I have to figure out what I am going to do to keep it as successful as it has always been. Sure, I could just stand back and let the fine folks here do what they do best. And that would work. But I don’t just want JAMM to work. I want it to be the best site on the Internet. I want it to continue to grow and evolve. What does that mean? I have absolutely no idea. I’ve had a lot of ideas for JAMM…some of them were even good ideas, and I have discussed a lot of them with the staff. And I plan to continue to seek their input as much as possible. But I also want to hear from all of you. Without readers and the community we have developed here, this site would all be nothing more than an exercise in futility. So, you tell us. What would you like to see from JAMM? What kinds of things would you like to see us cover? Let us know. Maybe you can have a hand in the evolution of JAMM.

Doug – it would be great if you could clean up the sidebar a bit. The sidebar adds 400% more length to the site than your post does! Moving some stuff to the right bar might work, grouping stuff like on MTS might be better, and perhaps some things can be eliminated.
An example – I believe that Categories can also be a drop down menu. Saves a lot of space!
And while I understand the links with the iPhone blog – how many people from JAMM want to know when the next iPhone chat is? If they want to know, they’d also follow JAiB and find out there, right?
The way the sidebar is now makes me think “Hmm that’s messy, I’m not even going to find if there’s cool stuff in there. I like the small Quotable box, but it’s so hidden in between other stuff that it’s easy to miss.

By the way, you might want to talk to Resco on a Resco Explorer 7 contest, I’m not entitled to a free upgrade, so…….

I could suggest you drop the drop shadow around images, I always hated the look of that.
Was it only March, it seems a lot longer?
Stefan, the sidebar is designed for the front page, not individual post pages, which explains why it is so long if looking at an individual post. It could be more compact but it’s much of a muchness at this point I think.
I too would like to see our contests back, but it’s an admin nightmare, and takes a specialist (someone with infinite patience, and time) to maintain.
