I Say Goodbye, You Say Hello
Posted by: PatrickJ on Jun 02 2008I’ve never been big on sharing much of my personal life here on JAMM. I hope you’ll all forgive me if I change that a little now on this final post for me here, though I’ll keep it pretty brief.
I have cancer. Found out beginning of last year. Things had been going well / better for me for several months in terms of this illness. Now they are not anymore, they are going significantly worse.
I have found over recent months that I was not able to put in the amounts of quality time on JAMM that I really wanted to, and now this situation would only get worse. So, for a number of reasons, it is best for me to bow out of running and actively contributing to the site.
Since I started this site almost exactly two years ago, I’ve had an absolute blast being involved with it. A blast working with and sharing ideas with superb people like Doug, Charlie, Brandon, Lauren, Peter, Thomas, and many others. A blast talking with and trading comments with many of you. Lots of fun keeping up with all the latest and greatest mobile gadgets and applications, and sharing our thoughts on them with all of you. I feel very happy and proud about where JAMM has got to in a couple of years, and all the good friends that I have, that the site has, made during this time.
I’m also very happy to say that as I step out of the site, our good friend and former colleague, Doug Goldring, is returning - and will take over running JAMM. Doug has been a huge contributor here since the very beginning (as many of you know) and it feels great to leave the site in the way more than capable hands of Doug, Brandon, Peter, Charlie, Lauren, Thomas, TJ, and all the rest of our excellent crew here.
I look forward to being a JAMM reader and commenter in future, and keeping in touch with as many of you as possible here as well ….

It took a while to find a site that I would visit every day that would satisfy my need for news and entertainment. JAMM has filled this position. I have enjoyed your comments and views. Good luck and God bless.
Best regards,
Stephen
Wow, Patrick…
I knew you had problems with your health a while back, didn’t know that it was this.
I’m shocked to hear that it’s getting worse at this moment, to the point that you need to abandon JAMM. I don’t know what you’ll be doing with the iPhone site but I understand you might focus on that if it’s possible. When I came to JAMM as reader the most contact I had was with Doug since he did pretty much all of the contest and game related things here, which was (are) my main topics of interest. But over time we did have our e-mail exchanges and since I started Twittering recently I can see your updates there as well. I’m glad we can still stay informed that way!
Of course I don´t know exactly how the situation is for you but I do know that just the pressure of having to maintain a site and lead a group of contributors can be very draining, and letting go that pressure hopefully gives you more energy and time to spend on other things you like doing.
I´ve been enjoying JAMM as a great place with a very nice commenting section. I´ve been switching blogs a bit, starting out on SolSie, and then from JAMM to EtenBlogDotCom and MyTodayScreen as place where I commented most, but even when I don´t comment I enjoy reading the Comments RSS. So I think you can be very proud of what you and your team has achieved on JAMM, on various levels. And you can also be confident that you´re leaving it in good hands. (I wonder how this will affect MyTodayScreen, but we´ll find out eventually).
I wish you all the best Patrick, and while I´ll say Hello to Doug here again, I won´t say Goodbye to you - I hope to keep reading your tweets so that we can keep in touch that way. (If you do plan to remain active there, that it).
I just wanted to take a minute to tell everyone how much Patrick has meant to me over the years. I joined JAMM shortly after he founded it, and for a long time he and I, along with Brandon and Charlie were JAMM. He really took a chance when he hired me, and I hope that I have never made him regret that decision (at least until I left a few months ago).
I was truly stunned when he asked me to come back and take things over for him. And I will do everything I can, along with the staff here at JAMM, to repay that trust.
@SPM, as to what will happen over at My Today Screen. Hopefully this will not have a significant impact. Though I do plan to look carefully at both sites for ways that each can help the other. More to come…:)
Doug
Wow. I’m very sorry and saddened to hear this. I hope that you can continue to keep us updated. I’m sure that JAMM will be in good hands with Doug coming back to help out the rest of the team. Just concentrate on getting better!
Leave it to Patrick to quote The Beatles for his final post. I’m terribly sorry to hear about your condition - I hope things turn around and we hope to see you back. I’ve only had a little time to be a part of the JAMM team, but I’ve learned a lot during that period. Thanks a lot for giving me the opportunity - I really appreciate it.
Add this to the long list:
* Cancer sucks.
Regards,
Ray
HUGE virtual hugs Patrick. HUGE ones.
Patrick,
I am sad to hear this news and know prayers are being lifted up for you.

Patrick will be back. You can count on it.
Patrick, you will be in my prayers. God bless
We love you Paddy, all of our best wishes and prayers are coming your way, thankfully you’re not Canadian or there would be a problem
Thank You, and Be Blessed,
I think sdjordan said it best, “He’ll be Back”
@sdjordan, we are counting on Patrick being back.
Doug
It is saddening to hear that Patrick but you will be in my prayers. You have built a great site and you’ll be leaving it in some very capable hands. Like the rest, I look forward to you coming back
Come back soon, Patrick! JAMM isn’t the same without ya!
Patrick, best wishes for a speedy recovery! Of course you can find most of us silly types at Facebook too!
Get well soon Patrick. You will be missed.
I haven’t been around as much as I would have liked recently, seeing as I have had my own share of drama in my life. It’s sad to see Patrick go, and I wish him the best of luck in the future. My own trials are comparatively trivial; I count my blessings. Patrick, be sure to get plenty of sunshine, as outlook has a strong influence on your health. God bless and protect you.
