JAMM ReLaunch Contest II

Posted by: dgoldring on Jun 30 2008 - 299 views

Well, I decided to take a break from picking winners today and instead shift gears a bit.  It looks like most of you have commented on the new theme, and we got a lot of great feedback.  But really, there is a lot more we want to know.  So, I figured we would change the rules a bit.  We’ll still pick three (or more) winners per day from this post, so keep checking back here.  What we want to know, though, is what would you like to see us review here at JAMM.  Take a look back through our review archives and tell us what programs, devices, or accessories you have a burning desire to know more about.  Again, each comment will count as one entry, and you may feel free to enter as often as you like.  Ready…set…COMMENT!

Virgin Mobile….$79.99. No Contracts. No Activation. No Commitment Necessary.

Posted by: dgoldring on Jun 30 2008 - 137 views

When I set off to write this post, I gleefully had thoughts in my head of 79 Virgins you would receive for signing up for this plan.  But really, they were all just too easy.  So, crude comments aside, this really does look like an extremely nice deal, as Verizon becomes the latest carrier to offer an unlimited service plan.  At only $79.99, here is what you can expect:

  • Totally Unlimited Calling for $79.99/Month
  • Call Any Number, Any Network
  • No Activation Fees
  • No Roaming or Long-Distance Charges
  • Pay with Cash, Credit or Debit
  • Add Unlimited Text & Messaging for $10/Month
  • Adjust Your Plan Anytime

If you want text messaging, that will cost you another $10, but still not a bad deal at all.  Of course, Virgin is able to offer all of this because they are a prepaid carrier only.  That means you have to pay for your minutes up front, but it also means no obnoxiously long two and three year contract commitments.  So, if you are looking for a new phone and are the type who can’t even commit to watching an entire season of any TV show, well then you might want to check out Virgin’s fantastic new $79.99 unlimited plan.

Check it out on Virgin’s website for more info.[via Gear Diary]

Hey! Sprint Fans. The Touch Pro is Coming…Soon?

I have always said that Sprint (which is my current carrier) has some pretty mediocre phones, but great service.  Other carriers, like AT&T, on the other hand, have some of the most cutting edge phones, but lousy service (just ask Brandon about 3G out in Denver).  Well, lately it seems that Sprint is doing everything in their power to prove me wrong.  First it was the Instinct, which I am just dying to try.  And now, it looks like the Touhc Pro (aka Raphael) will be coming soon to a Sprint store near you.  No word on a timeline, and I hope this comes to fruition a little (OK, a lot) faster than the Palm 800w.  All we can tell you for now is that the HTC Touch Pro (CDMA version) has apparently received FCC approval here in the United States, a major step in the process of a handset become and actual phone, available in stores near you.  Of course, you Verizon fans can likely expect to see the Touch Pro as well, but hopefully (in my own selfish way) it will be coming first to Sprint.  Godspeed, Touch Pro.  Hopefully, we will see you soon.

CONTEST!!: Digital Photo Keychain Giveaway

Posted by: weiganla on Jun 30 2008 - 272 views

It’s time for another contest here at JAMM, and this time we’re giving away three digital photo keychains like the one I just reviewed. So, how do you win?

image image image

Since there are three prizes, I’ll give you three chances to enter. For your first entry, leave a comment in this post telling me why you’d like a photo keychain. Get a second by going to our brand new Facebook page and becoming a fan (if it’s not obvious, mention in your comment here who you are). For a third shot, upload a picture that you would put on a photo keychain to the contest page on Facebook.

Rules: Deadline for entries is midnight on July 4, CDT. I will select three winners over the weekend, and the awesomeness of your uploaded picture just might influence your chances of winning so make it good! And keep it clean, we’re a family site. Good luck!

Thanks to WholesaleKeychain.com for the prizes.

Review: Digital Photo Keychain Takes Pictures Really, Really Mobile

Posted by: weiganla on Jun 30 2008 - 249 views

digital photo keychainThe biggest problem with digital cameras is showing your photos off, especially to people who aren’t very tech savvy. Do you email them? I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve physically had to go up to my grandparents’ house to help them access pictures I’ve emailed.  Upload them to a photo sharing site? You have to have an online computer handy to look at  them. Print them out? Only if you want to spend a mint in paper and ink. Digital photo frames are becoming more popular, but they’re still expensive and not exactly portable.

A new solution is a digital photo keychain. They’re small, lightweight, and typically hold more than 60 shots. Considering they’re tinier than a lot of the other things most people have dangling from their keychains — a friend used to WholesaleKeychain.comcarry a 6-inch rubber chicken — they’re  definitely mobile technology. Very mobile. So when the nice folks at WholesaleKeychain.com offered me a chance to take a look at their product, I was excited to check it out.

Hit the jump for more!

California Bans Driving and Talking without a Hands-Free Set

Posted by: tjchan on Jun 29 2008 - 173 views

text and drive

According to TechDirt, California has approved a law that will ban driving and using a cellphone without using a hands-free set. Now they are already working on a followup to ban texting while driving. Why end it there? And certainly I agree with them. People need to concentrate on driving when they are driving - not trying to read a map, texting, or even browsing their email from their iPhone. Washington’s already banned texting while driving back in May of last year. I hope that other states will follow suite. People, let’s drive while driving. Let’s not be doing other things while guiding a huge hunk of metal down the road as it could get pretty nasty.
