Since I am running WM(5) I am able to map Opera Mini to my hard key. There is a mortscript out there to make it the system browser but that happens so little (where I want some other app to start my browser) that I don't run it. And since Opera went to new servers OM doesn't seem to "toss it's cookies" any more. :-)

yeah, Opera Mini. I really, really wanted to like it and use it. I just couldn't get over the fact that you can't launch it like a native app. There may be a shortcut to do so (so I could launch mini like I could PIE) but I'm not using the WM platform as my daily driver anymore.

I do admit that Opera Mini does crazy amazing things with sites though -- but I see PPCs as powerful mini comps. They can handle the internet! :P No proxy site training wheels for them!

I picked up the latest build, 1126, and it runs much better. To Ragart's point it wants a lot of running room. Skyfire chews your battery with CPU use. Opera Mini is still, for me, the one to beat. But Mobile is pre-beta and Skyfire is only at .6x :)

One thing that's a real disadvantage to this surfing is that you're basically nuking everything else on your system if you don't have a new device.

You've got your TyTN or your Axim, the equivalent of a small desk chock full of stuff. Then you wanna whip out Opera and do some cool surfing so you take both your arms and whack EVERYTHING off of the desktop. Then you put Opera on and it's awesome but there's no room for anything else :(

The tragedy, the tale of woe that is the 64 MB experience.

Thanks Peter. I got my files from XDA and had not looked at the links to PPCGeeks. Probably the same build, but who knows.

Schmenge, if you look at the link in the article you will find that there are four cab files WM5 and WM6, in VGA and QVGA flavours. I used the WM5 VGA cab, was going to try the WM6 cab as well, when I get the chance! That's mainly why this is being called a beta as the person who extracted the files did some doctoring to make something specifically produced for the Diamond, work with other devices. You might want to have a search at XDA Developers as well, there are a couple of great threads pertaining to this as well. :)

Great review, thanks. I installed on my 8125 and in both main memory and on my SD card it ran pretty slow and I had some sites not load at all. To be fair to Opera the version out there was made for WM 6.1 and I am running WM5.

I tried this on my hx2795b a few days ago and it didn't work for very long before it froze. I ended up doing a clean reset and a backup and decided it wasn't worth trying it again. Thanks for the article, it shows the things that I wanted to see.
