Now I've been using softmaker desktop in a limited fashion since I tried it out last year. It is not dissimilar to MS apps but there is a learning curve there. The beauty of this is that it does not change your file extensions, ie; you can open a .doc file and edit it and save and it remains a .doc file. I don't have an updated version of office to test it with, but with all of my MS office 2000 files, it transfers well to the PPC and maintains formatting that mobile office does not. Saving files from office to the PPC preserves the original file extension, so sending on files from the mobile is uncomplicated as they can be opened by MS apps. I have been using the mobile app of softmaker, because it translates MS office documents more thoroughly than WinMo Office does at this point. Softmaker preserves the integrity of your MS Office files, whilst still letting you manipulate them with another app. As for preferences, Softmaker on a Windows Mobile Device, is better than the native MS apps at this point. I've just been agonizing over whether to spring for the current Microsoft Office. I have the Softmaker 2006 on my old Axim, but am trying to pair things that will actually be useful on my new TILT. I want something that OTHERS can open if i send them docs. With the new file endings on the current MS, i'm starting to see potential conflicts all over again. Long way around to ask, would you rely on Softmaker to be your "go to" Desk and Mobile app? Both MS & Softmaker are heavy investments, if you're still going to have to have both around.
