Plasma Screen for your Mobile?
I don’t know why but this just struck me as a strange direction to go in. As more service providers are coming up with mobile TV offerings, is a 2.4 inch plasma screen going to enhance the viewing experience? It certainly wont do away with the magnifying glass. Working with AT&T to enhance it’s mobile TV service, these guy’s are trying to compete with OLED technology.
Panasonic took the stage at CTIA 2008 this week with partner AbleComm to announce that it has been working with AT&T to develop plasma displays for mobile phones, for use with the carrier’s new Mobile TV service.
How many users want to watch plasma quality video on a small screen? Somehow I can see this working for headset replacement wide screens like the MyVu, but on a mobile phone? Unless it looks like this.

Update:
Just so you know, it seems now that the press release from AbleComm, regarding plasma screens for mobiles was an April Fools stunt gone a bit wrong, seeing that it was released on April third. In a subsequent PR Newswire release the statements were retracted,
PRNewswire — April 3, 2008
We are advised by AbleComm, Inc. that journalists and other readers should disregard the news release, Panasonic To Put Plasma Video Displays in Cell Phones, issued earlier today over PR Newswire, as the entire news release is completely false.
I did say it seemed strange! It fooled a lot of people though

Great review! I agree on the plasma screen on mobile phones bit. What’s the point? When I think Plasma I think big screen!
I have had the myvu glasses for a while but I must admit they have found their way into a drawer because the screen size just doesn’t do it for me. When I sit in front of my 50″ beauty in the lounge and put these on and compare, they are only about 1/4 the size of the flat screen (half size, but a quarter of the area)
Vuzix has apparently made a breakthrough in the screen size and quality area and a friend of mine has some. When we did the screen size test, the Vuzix glasses came up bigger than the flat screen!
Not as sleek as the myvu’s, but wow – cinema in your pocket.
Saving my pennies!
