Have our prayers been answered? 6.1 with desktop based IE?!

Now I’m not typically one who falls for "early reports" but I’d heard Micrsoft was actually going to be doing some work on making PIE a little more like real IE. Well, wonder no more. It looks like this fall (on new devices) we can expect to see some real desktop like webpage rendering hitting our Windows Mobile devices!

Warning … there’s a TON of background noise.

Among the changes are a new and improved browser engine based on the desktop version IE6, and a "zoom out" feature for looking at an overview of web pages.

The best comment I have read so far on this was (paraphrased) “Microsoft would be best off to get on with making a desktop grade IE before they work on a desktop grade IE Mobile.”

I’d have to agree. ;-}

Great quote. And while I’m still a fan of desktop IE … its definitely losing ground to Safari and Firefox.

But – PIE was definitely an ailing product that needed an overhaul. If they can bring it on par with desktop IE, its a seriously huge improvement.
