April fools or "I have a Query"
There is rumoured announcement of the release of Windows Mobile 6.1, going around. Apparently it’s up for an April first launch. Does any one else see the irony of this. Point upgrades of WinMo, are not addressing the instability or lack of user interface enhancements, that most users are hungry for. I know that when I went from WM5 to WM6, albeit an illegal version on my Axim x51v, there were some performance gains, but as time has gone on, the system stability has not improved. Given it is my primary device, and it gets all sorts of applications installed upon it, I don’t necessarily expect it to work at a premium, obviously it gets thrashed. So I come to a point where I’m ready to hard reset, and I transfer back to the x51 that I haven’t used for a while and it’s faster than the x51v ever was.
So the query is, "Microsoft’s open platform, is unstable because?"
Some how the WinMo updates do not address core operating system problems, they just try to glaze over the real issues with things users are looking for.
I’d love to see some focus from Microsoft, maybe they’ve got their digits in too many pies, it’s about time WinMo got upgrades, not updates, and lived up to the gatesian ethic. Or we are all gonna do big jobs!

Can you really expect your unofficial untested hacked ROM upgrade to be stable?
Of course the x51 is going to be faster than the x51v, it doesn’t have that huge VGA screen to deal with.

That was a rather disappointing point for me on my x51v. My friend had an x51 at around the same time and his machine always used up a lot less battery life and was just plain faster.
If you shell out the extra bucks to get a VGA device you should be getting something that can HANDLE being a VGA device. The Axim had plenty of power in it, but I’m guessing it’s just craziness on the side of Windows Mobile that just wasn’t able to handle the pixel power.

To answer your query, I have noticed that the device.exe, filesys.exe and gwes.exe processes tend to expand in size without bounds. Me thinks this has a bit to do with the problem. The only way to lower the amount of memory that those processes have allocated to them is to restart the device.
My query is why is this necessary and has that been rectified in 6.1?
