Apple Pie outside my Windows #2: A little bit of iPhone vs Windows Mobile!
Posted by: Ragart on Mar 31 2008 - 508 views
So in episode one of my little set of logs I talked about the reasons for leaving Windows Mobile. I chose Apple’s iPod Touch as the device to jump to, but after three weeks with the device I decided to return it. It was great, but after having had a TyTN for eight months I was spoiled on the idea of having a converged device. A media player and a phone. Luckily, Apple sells one of those, too. So now I own an 8GB iPhone and am quite pleased with it so far.
The change hasn’t been perfect though. I had reasons for leaving WM, but there were also a lot of things I loved (and still love) about the platform…or, rather, what was available on it. The SDK may change some of these things, but I thought it might be interesting to document some of the less-blogged-about (at least, I think so) aspects of the iPhone vs WM. It could be helpful if you’re considering taking a bite from the big metal fruit.
I am handing out free marshmallows after the jump (not true). So c’mon!

Save 20% on Virtual Pool Mobile for Pocket PC
Posted by: PatrickJ on Mar 31 2008 - 246 viewsDoug’s mobile post last night from Opening Day at The Nationals park reminded me that this is probably my favorite time of the sports year. March Madness in full flow (man I wanted Davidson to pull off the shocker yesterday!), baseball getting started again, and The Masters right round the corner. Very, very good time to be a sports fan.
So, in honor of this great time in the sports calendar, here’s a little JAMM Store coupon love on a great sporting title.
20% Off Virtual Pool Mobile for Pocket PC from now through the end of Friday April 4th. This is a game that got a recent rave review from Lauren, which you can check out HERE.
To get your savings, just head to the Virtual Pool Mobile product page HERE, and quote the coupon code JAMM-POOL on checkout.
Agh, nothing like the sound of a good break, or a crisp line drive ….

Long-Awaited Treo 800w Is Finally On The Way
Posted by: weiganla on Mar 31 2008 - 363 viewsPractically ever since the Treo 700wx hit Sprint way back in 2006, Palm has been promising a successor. They’ve been promising an update to their OS, too, and we know how that’s turned out. But finally, there’s semi-official proof that the Treo 800w will actually be hitting stores within a few months.
This leaked image of a Sprint roadmap first showed up on a Sprint users forum with Sprint’s lawyers puffing close behind. According to the roadmap, the 800w will have EV-DO Rev A (yay!), WiFi (yay again!), GPS (yippee!), and comes in camera and non-camera versions. Disappointingly, the roadmap names Windows Mobile 6.0 as the OS, but since 6.1 is rumored to be released tomorrow and most of the other leaked specs list 6.1 for the 800w, my fingers are crossed.

Coming Soon to a Verizon Near You
Posted by: weiganla on Mar 31 2008 - 542 viewsJust ahead of the biannual CTIA wireless convention, Verizon has unveiled a new phone lineup which was apparently developed in consultation with Hollywood executives. Hollywood probably put out more sequels and remakes last
summer, but not by much. Check out the retreads, I mean, releases:
Verizon Wireless XV6900 — Does this look like the Sprint Touch to anyone? That’s because it’s the same phone. If there’s a difference in specs I didn’t notice it, and still no WiFi. Available in late April.
MOTO Q 9c — Thank goodness Verizon recognizes their consumers have a range of needs. Now personal users can choose the MOTO Q 9m WinMo 6 smartphone and business users can go for the 9c, which has been thoughtfully optimized especially for them with a less colorful shell. Available in April.
enV2 by LG — The original texting-focused enV will be jealous of its successor, which got a slimming makeover. It may be blocky but it’s
also kinda cute. Available in April.
Alias by Samsung — It’s just like the existing dual-hinged SCH-u740, only… in silver! Available in April.
BlackBerry Curve 8330 — Verizon’s version
of the Curve looks at lot like other 83X0s such as this one from AT&T. At least it’s been beefed up with EV-DO. Unscheduled outages come standard. Available in May.

EyePhoto Released! View Your Photos in Style
Posted by: weiganla on Mar 31 2008 - 451 views
The snazzy-looking iWindowsMobile family of applications just got a new member! VITO Technologies introduced today their latest pretty program, EyePhoto. With that name they’ve got to be aiming a sly wink at Apple.
EyePhoto is a stylish photo viewer for Windows Mobile with
a slick gesture-based interface. EyePhoto’s name isn’t the only thing that sounds like it belongs on an iPhone. Like all iWindowsMobile applications, it’s designed to be completely finger-friendly. Flipping through photos is done with gestures, almost like in a physical album.
EyePhoto automatically collects all the JPEG images on your Pocket PC and organizes them in albums similar to other photo viewer programs. It also handles portrait/landscape rotation and gesture-based zooming. Can’t wait to check this one out!
You can get your fingers on EyePhoto for $14.95 from iWindowsMobile.
