JASBR: just another Skyfire beta review

Thanks to a post on Mobility Today we were notified of the cool review on PocketNow.

The Skyfire beta’s been out for a little while now and other users have been putting their thoughts together. Overall the PocketNow reviewer seemed to think the flash support and fast loading was a cool offering, but didn’t quite pan out in practice. He especially didn’t like the way you input URLs. I like the fact that there’s a long video section to the review, allowing us to really se what the application is like.

And remember — if you’re tired of reading what everybody else thinks, you can still sign up for the beta at Skyfire’s website if you’re a resident of the US of A (aka NOT me).

Then you can brag about how you can surf the net quickly (albeit a little clumsily) while I’m stuck with PIE.

Go ahead. Laugh. :(

Why don’t you use Opera Mini?

I did like toying around with Mini but I don’t like how it’s a java app. I looked around for an easy way to quick llaunch Mini, but I always need to go through that darn applet. Combine that with the fact that I find the whole Java Applet search quite confusing (I’ve read your articles, but seems to me that the good one you liked is now gone).

Whle Mini was cool, I just find it too cumbersome since it’s not made for WM.

Ragart, you may have missed my direct for example Messaging invocation scripts ;-)

(BTW, isn’t it possible NOT to having to wait for moderation with friends’ posts containing links? It’d certainly speed up the conversation.

Nevertheless, I try to re-post the link w/o the http in the beginning:

actually I saw those a few days after you put them on XDa — but thanks for the link nonetheless. I love reading about these discoveries.

The thing is, I just like to use my browser by launching it and then navigating via bookmarks. And I’m picky: I want a native WM app. I think it’s great to launch for messaging or any other program, but it’s just not my style.

I think I know how you feel about Opera Mini though, Menneisyys — I feel the same way about PocketCM Keyboard. I wonder why everyone doesn’t jump ship on everything else and just use that :P

I thought the review over at PocketNow was a little unnecessarily harsh. It seemed to treat this program as a full release version, with the same expectations as a ready to release program. Obviously, this is a Beta which is not even close to release. I wrote a first impressions post, but will wait to write a full review for the release version.

@Menneisyys, I was actually thinking the same thing when I saw your comment in the moderation queue. We’ll look into that.

Doug
