HTC X7510- Now An Even Greater Advantage

The iPhone and iPod Touch aren’t the only devices getting some flash memory love– an upgraded model of the HTC Advantage will soon be released in Europe with 16GB of flash memory in place of the original 8GB microdrive. Other additions include HTC’s TouchFLO and (rumor has it) the soon-to-be-released Windows Mobile 6.1.

Pretty ain’t it??

GORGEOUS.

Although how practical is that keyboard?

I [mugged, stalked, persuaded] asked politely, a japanese tourist if I could have a look at his 7501 recently, and these are great devices. they keyboard is small, but very usable. I wouldn’t refuse one of these but as a phone it’s a bit impractical.

I actually used one for a couple of weeks last fall and was surprised by how functional the keyboard actually is. I would not want to write a novel on it but it definitely worked for short emails etc. Plus, the screen is large enough that with something like SPB’s Full Screen Keyboard works nicely without the physical keyboard.

It is a unique device that gets a lot of things right that the first generation UMPCs got wrong. Sure it is not capable of running full Windows software but it is still very capable- especially now that it is flash-based. As a phone, though, not so much.

It is the device that made me want the shift, smaller than the eeepc, still workable, and expandable memory, I only ever use email and SMS on my phone any way!!

Shift = HTC’s version of the DualCore… sure the Shift is actually shipping finally but too little, too late and for HOW MUCH??

It will be interesting to see if the X7510 drives the price of the X7500 down or if it just vanishes. At $500-$600 it would be a pretty awesome deal.

Well no one will buy one of those, the air advertisements have started here, I’m going to go to the apple shop tomorrow and see if I can get my hands on a fart!! :D

I had the chance to test the keyboard. Indeed better than that of the original Athena but in no way so good as that of the Universal because it’s more of a “sensor” keyboard without real keys. All in all, I am not very satisfied with it.

And, of course, it still uses the PXA270 :(

Very disappointing about the keyboard.
I’m still wondering why they removed the “mouse” from it.
I never tried a JasJar/Universal but I still get the sense it remains the “device to beat”.
