Snake Oil and Shysters!

Say it isn’t so, rumours are rife today that Dell, makers of the extraordinary Dell Axim range, discontinued mid 2007, are going to announce a Google Android handset. Another little piece of me just died, and went to cynic’s hell. Well before, and ever since the demise of the Axim, there has been speculation on converged devices from Dell, and it’s always been a little Rocky and Bullwinkle, ” Hey Rocky, wanna see me pull a rabbit out of this hat?”. So I’m a sceptic, even though the rumour goes right back to a reputable news source.
Speculation is mounting that Google is plotting the launch of a mobile phone in partnership with computer giant Dell.
Senior industry sources claim the two companies will reveal their plans at next month’s 3GSM telecoms conference in Barcelona, al-though Google insiders deny an announcement is due in the near future.
But the rumours will once again throw the spotlight on Google’s mobile strategy, which has been the subject of much conjecture over the last year.
I love the way it’s hinted, “Senior Industry Sources”, that could just mean, “well this janitor over at Dell” found something in a waste basket. Although if you think about it, HTC were thought to be going to be the first to release a Gphone, Dell Axim’s were also made by HTC, this might be a feasible strategy for Dell to get back into the handheld market. I can’t help but feel that this would only do harm to Dells so far illustrious hand held bloodline. I ask you will a Dell Gphone hit a consumer Gspot, or will we be waiting for years for the android to become the terminator? ………And what’s with the matching logo colours?
