Sprint Mogul Owners: The Rumors Are True (Maybe)!
When I was young, we used to play a game in school called Telephone Operator (sometimes also called Post Office). The idea was pretty simple. The first person is told a message. They then whisper the same message into the ear of the next person, and so on until you reach the end of the line. It was always amusing to hear the last person ceremoniously declare a message that bore almost no resemblance to the original.
This game is how I have often felt perusing the various rumors and message board chats surrounding the ROM upgrades for the Sprint Mogul. It is coming. It is not coming. It will include GPS. It will include limited GPS. This the wrong GPS chip, it is for emergency use only. The Bluetooth will be fixed. Bluetooth is a hardware issue. EVDO Rev-A. Yeah right, in your dreams. Like Newton’s Law, for every rumor I hear, there is an opposite and equally persuasive rumor. I have lost track of all of them and do not know whom to believe.
Well, it seems that the good folks over at Engadget have uncovered what may be even more than just a mere rumor. According to an article they posted today, there is a beta version (not a cooked ROM) of a new official ROM for the Sprint Mogul. Not a lot of details, but if this thing is true, it will sport full GPS navigation and EVDO Rev-A. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for a fully functional Bluetooth radio as well.
The Beta is floating around the Internet now, and I am sure our more industrious readers will be able to track it down with no problem. Be forewarned though, parts of it, including the Rev-A are still a bit flaky. The final ROM is expected sometime in March.
