Free: Contest Blowout! Back 2 Back January Giveaways!

back2back

Well, looks like someone screwed up big time here at the Contest Factory! I can’t believe I was only gone for a week and my oompa loompa’s are already slacking off. Oh, well our mistake is your gain. Dang! Do I sound like a car sale commercial or what. :P

Gather round boys and girls, because we have some great news for you all. We are combining two great giveaways into one big contest blowout. This time we are giving away some award winning software from our friends at Ilium Software and iWindowsmobile.com.

CONTEST WILL END ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 20, 2008. 9:00PM PST.

I emailed to jammcontest@gmail.com the meaning of Ilium.
I would like FunContact to implement features like PI_Contact so that can become my default Contact software.

I’d like to only enter for the Vito prizes…
Emailing you about Ilium right now…
For FunContact:

I would love to see the address information as well. Even if it can be contacted (meaning that it’s not a “live link”) it can be very useful to have the address displaying right away. FunContact can be the MAIN contact application this way, since it also provides an in-application solution for when you want to send someone a letter (could be important for sending Christmas cards, sending letters to company contacts, etc). I know we can see this by opening the contact from within Fun Contact, but still having this inside the app would be better.

Just for eye-candy: having the contact photo in the scroll list would be pretty (but might make things harder/slower to draw?)

My husband just commented that I don’t keep myself updated about what is going on in the world. Because I enjoy to read books instead of watching the most updated news. I would love NewsBreak to do something about that. I will email the meaning of ilium to you.

Thanks

Wow, what a great contest. Seems like every week JAMM contests are getting better.

The best way to improve Funcontact would be to increase its startup time. The UI looks very nice, so I can understand why the startup time is so long, but still, waiting about three seconds if you quickly want to make a phone call is simply to long in my opinion.

Yeah knaak, you are right, JAMM switched the gear to the full throttle – it is amazing how can they run so many contests in such a short time.

@ Charlie

I love the new contests that demand people to have certain knowledge, or search for it.

Ilium is Latin name for ancient Greek city of Troy (the very same city Brad Pitt helped to conquer as Achilles in 2004 movie “Troy”). Preferred Latin name for Troy is Troia however – Ilium is used in poetic language (such as Homer’s Iliad – Iliad means “pertaining to Ilion”. Ilion (Ίλιον) is Troy in Greek language (other Greek name is Troia (Τροία)) – so I think it works interchangeable for Latin too.

Ilium is also the name for a bone in the pelvis, and the name of fictional town in upper New York state in several novels by Kurt Vonnegut. It is also a name of Dan Simmon’s novel. And the last but not least it is the part of the name of Ilium Software Inc. :D

I do not like two thing about FunContact – loading speed and cartoonish default skin. Price can be lower too, given that there is similarly featured freeware alternative to FunContact.

### non contest entry ###

@ Charlie

I have just noticed that others sent you the answer by e-mail – I am sorry to ruin this question for others by posting the answer here. I know it is not easy to find the other question for the contest, so I suggest you this one: Let the contestants write you an e-mail with answer for this question: “Where is Vito Technology from?” (Name of town/city and state/country). The way they can get this information is the same as in the case of Ilium and I think many people will be surprised where the great software they use comes from ;)

Regards,

wolfie

I forgot to give my comments on Fun Contact and I agree loading time is a wee bit long and way too plain and simple cartoon .. ish default skin. They need to lower the price too, there are too many similarly featured freeware alternative to FunContact. Thanks for letting me enter … cause “I feel a SinCommin On!” madmad59

Count me in the contest…

FunContact is certainly overpriced and I wonder about usefullness on non-touch screen devices. I have a HTC 3125, but there is no mention of screen views for that kind of device.

Finally, ilium is… 1) a bone, a book, a software company.

Thanks, MMM

Here’s some “Ilium” for you:

Ilion or Ilium, alternative names for the legendary city of Troy
Ilium (band), a melodic power metal band from Newcastle, Australia
ilium (bone) or ilion, a bone in the pelvis
Ilium (Kurt Vonnegut), a fictional town in upper New York state, used as a setting for many of Kurt Vonnegut’s novels
Ilium (novel), a 2003 novel by Dan Simmons

Fun contact is really colorful and smooth scrolling. I really like it; will there be more skins available soon? Thanks for entering me in the contest!

I would love the updated Newsbreak, or maybe one of the iWondowsMobile (I need to get over to their site and check out their SW)

ilium – the big bone on top that we think of as the hip bone

Hey wolfie, that’s a great suggestion. I might implement that on our next Vito contest.

Great comments guys and gals, keep it coming!

According to http://www.palaeos.com, L. ilium = the flank and the iliac bone. The dorsal bone of the three bones forming the pelvis.

I like the finger slide on funcontact but I don’t like the garish colors. Tone it down a bit.

I don’t know what ilium means, but I do remember reading somewhere than the founders of iambic and ilium met years ago and both agreed that naming a company with an “i” was determined to more likely lead to a failed company, more than any other letter.

I like FunContact, but the graphics, while neat, are a little too cartoonish for my primary business device, and for me when I’m standing in court in front of a Judge. For weekends, it’s the cat’s meow, though.

There are three contests going on at the same time, is that not a record?

Anyway, count me in!

The King

Ilium is one of the names of ancient Greek city of Troy.

The King

Funcontact. I do not like cartoon like graphics (too many intensive colors, it looks bit childish), high price and the fact that it lacks some features of its biggest freeware competitor – PCM Contact. Namely contact pictures and SMS chat (A.K.A. threaded SMS) This feature will be released as a commercial add-on or standalone app later.

Loading time increases with number of contacts, you can not expect the app load in reasonable time if you have 1000+ contacts, that is a large database to read.

I have one technical comment: How will the prizes be distributed – e.g. three winners with choice of one app from Ilium and one from Vito?

dofo
Jan 20, 2008

According to Ilium Software their name means:

Ilium is Greek for Troy, the ancient city where the Trojan War took place. The Trojan Horse, Helen of Troy, and Homer’s Iliad are associated with Troy. Some of the founders of Ilium Software were working in Troy, Michigan when we started the company. There’s also a Troy in New York, which Kurt Vonnegut fictionalizes as Ilium, New York in several of his novels.

I downloaded and installed FunContact, but it did not impress me much. It is not very useful for large numbers of contacts, scrolling becomes tiresome then. Graphic design of it is not suitable for business use. I will stick with Contact Breeze.
