Myvu Ups The Ante With Its Latest Video Eyewear Offerings
I was very excited this morning when I opened my inbox and found an email from my friends at myvu. Myvu, you will recall, makes one of my favorite "oughtta be science fiction" gadgets — the video eyewear. I first reviewed the myvu here, and Charlie wrote a follow up of the myvu universal edition, here. Today, Myvu debuted a new generation of myvu personal media viewers with myvu shades and myvu crystal. Like their predecessors, both new viewers turn portable media players into hands-free, private cinemas – all in a fashionable pair of sunglasses. This time around, Myvu has partnered with INNO Design and world-famous Young Kim, to reimagine the design of the myvu eywear line. More from the press release after the jump.
Myvu shades features a glance-down design that allows viewers to maintain true situational awareness. This unique design provides a broad and unobstructed field of view that enables new applications and uses that were not possible before. Myvu crystal features an increased resolution from Quarter VGA to VGA quality without sacrificing its sleek, ergonomic design. In addition, myvu crystal has a 35% increase in the field of view over existing myvu models, providing true DVD quality. Built for durability, myvu crystal still retains the appearance of a delicate, elegant pair of high-end eyeglasses.
The new myvu line features Kopin’s CyberDisplay® technology, offering the highest pixel density and the sharpest resolution for its size. Shades and crystal also include a rechargeable battery with up to 10 hours of viewing time for shades and up to four hours of viewing time for crystal, as well as earbuds from Ultimate Ears. Myvu shades and crystal work with portable media players, including all iPod® with video model, Sansa-View®, Microsoft Zune, mobile phones (Nokia N95 and select Samsung models), portable DVD players and various game consoles.
The new line of myvu eyewear will be available in 2008. Myvu shades are expected to retail for $199.95 in late January 2008. Myvu crystal will ship in Spring 2008 and will retail for $299.95. Both will be available through www.myvu.com. Hopefully, both will be landing at the JAMM testing labs shortly after their release, so keep your watching this space for what should prove to be some exciting reviews in the coming months.
