Readers Show & Tell – with knaak

Remember Show & Tell in your early school days? Those were great days – when you’d get to bring in a lizard from home and he’d escape in the classroom and mayhem would ensue – good stuff, and much better than buckling down to learning anything I seem to recall.

Well … we thought it might be fun to get a little ‘My Main Device’ type show and tell going with JAMM readers and contributors. Tell us all about your primary mobile device, how much you love it, how you use it, and why it’s even cooler than a lizard escaping in a classroom.

One of our regular – and favorite! – readers has kindly agreed to be our second participant in this little series: knaak.  So hit the jump to hear knaak’s story …

Before answering the questions, let me just say that I really like JAMM. Every PDA owner should check this site daily. There are certainly other PDA sites, but JAMM, in my opinion, is the most comprehensive one and the most up to date with the latest news!

My Primary Mobile Device Is:

qtek 9100

Does It Have a Name? (not like an official Device ID, like Harry or Fred)

no!

I Chose Him / Her Because …

of the price actually, although I never regretted the purchase. I do strongly consider buying a new one though, I have been hearing a lot of good stories about the Tytn II. If any one has any ideas comments or suggestions do post below!

I’ve Owned Him / Her For:

2 years now

My Previous Main Device Was …

not a pda actually, just an ordinary mobile phone.

My Friends Are Always Impressed When I ………. with my device

Mmm, I do not really use my qtek 9100 to impress. Although the slide out keyboard is something I get comments on, this, I  must say, is indeed very handy

My 5 Most Essential Apps Are …

Hmm, difficult to choose: I think PI, Textmaker, Planmaker, ListPro and SPB Diary.

I tried Pocketbreeze a couple of months ago as well but found SPB Diary easier to navigate, you can even use “thumb navigation” when you use the horizontal tabs. . But I am not really a believer in either SPB or SBSH, they both make great products, just depends on your personal preferences.

Textmaker and Planmaker I recently purchased when there was that discount a couple of weeks ago. That’s certainly an upgrade when you are used, but, unfortunately, does not support docx yet! Please, if anyone from SoftMaker reads this, try to implement this feature! Of course I recently installed the Office Mobile upgrade, but still, would be much easier if I could just open them in Textmaker

Pocket Informant and ListPro speak for themselves!

If I Could Change One Thing About My Device It Would Be …

The speed, hey, its a qtek 9100! But I did change that actually. I overclocked it to 273 using batterystatus. Its works very smooth since!

My least favorite feature of my device is:

That’s difficult. Probably Adobe Reader for pdf files. I do not use it anymore, I prefer foxit (for desktop as well actually)

The first thing I do with it when I roll out of bed is:

eat breakfast

My favorite hardware accessory is:

Do not use any extra hardware besides the storage card

Thanks knaak – great job!

knaak – You definitely need to check out the TYTN II. Given the (9100/Wizard) you’ve got now that would be a very large upgrade. I think skipping the TYTN (I) was a wise move as it was more of a point release upgrade in terms of big features.

Anyway – check out th TYTN II. Maybe wait a while for the prices to drop, but it’s a winner. Looks a lot thinner, and there’s a ton of new features.

Good read though – nice job!
