Online MP3 storage, What the?

Wow MP3Tunes let’s you store all your music, for free, online. This is a great little idea, and I haven’t tried it, because the data upload costs would be exorbitant. Also I really don’t want to put the years of PAID for CD’s, online. There’s no reassurance that my unprotected tunes will not be available to others. Even though I’ve gotten over vynil, won’t wear it any more, most of my music is on CD’s that I purchased. Even though it is all MP3 encoded so I can use it with my iPod, now, I still don’t fancy putting it online. When I looked at this article, I first thought ok, yeah it works to a certain extent, but who has unlimited upload on their Data Plan? Download maybe. I looked at the size of my music folder, 7.8 Gb, I’d have to get a second job to upload that!image

It seems though that the founder of MP3.com, Michael Robertson, has been throwing some ( if not paltry) money around, encouraging people to develop applications, to provide such services and MP3Tunes is one that’s come out of it.

MP3Tunes is a Music Locker, that lets you save all of your music online – for free – giving you access to it from any (Internet-enabled) location and on a wide range of devices.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea, but I’d like to know my stuff is protected.

There’s also lots of links to have a look at applications that others have developed, in reply to the monetary rewards. With the advent of higher and higher online storage opportunities, do we actually gain higher access to our data, or give others higher access to our data? OK, I’ll put the tin foil hat back on now!
