Phone Home! CellPhones for Soldiers!

image I’m not going to rehash E.T., but this item blew me away today, an initiative, from a couple of teenagers that is helping troops overseas to not blow their pay on the cost of calling home. Basically what the program does, is encourage people to donate their old mobile phones, which are then on sold to a phone recycling company. The proceeds then go to buy pre-paid calling cards for soldiers serving overseas.

Cell Phones for Soldiers was founded by teenagers Robbie and Brittany Bergquist from Norwell, Mass., with $21 of their own money. Since then, the registered 501c3 non-profit organization has raised almost $1 million in donations and distributed more than 500,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas.

With the Holidays coming up, this is a great gift that all of us can give, and free up some space in our desks draws as well. It’s a real win win situation, promoting recycling as well as family connections. Have a look at CellPhonesforSoldiers, some food for thought.
