Opera Mini 4, Not Duck Soup.

Opera Mini Opera Mini 4 is officially HOT! It’s free and everyone want’s it apparently, so much so in the 10 days since it’s release it has been downloaded, don’t get your fingers and toes out, 1 Million times. If that’s not testimony to peoples faith in the reliability of Opera’s mobile browsers I don’t know what is.

Oslo and Mountain View, CA — November 23, 2007

Opera, the only company that puts the Web on any device, today revealed that Opera Mini 4, the newest version of the world’s most popular mobile Web browser, was downloaded more than one million times in the 10 days following its worldwide debut on November 7. Opera Mini is available completely free from http://www.operamini.com/. Overall, Opera Mini has already been embraced by more than 26 million cumulative users who view more than one billion Web pages every month.

Now I’ve tried many browsers and Opera is my preferred browser for mobile. PIE with PIEPlus would be second to that, SPB Pocket Plus added some functionality to PIE as well. Opera still reigns supreme. It would be nice if other open source browser suppliers would focus on mobile devices a bit more. Recently I posted on a refocus at Mozilla that was really encouraging, for the mobile market, but it seems it’s hard to catch up with Opera’s head start.

Oh, did I say it’s Free!

Unfortunately I was unable to get to some bank websites using Opera Mini (PIE either)on my Motorola Q. I can access these sites using PIE or Opera (mobile version) on my PPC with a wi-fi connection. I wondered if the phone connection is causing the access problem as opposed to PIE or Opera being the problem.

I know that there are some websites that I can access with one GPRS connection, but can’t reach with another. So this may not be the same situation but different settings for connections sure can cause different results. (I don’t know a lot about connection settings so don’t ask me which settings are causing the different behaviour :O )
