Do you need GPS? Sure, you could get a bluetooth GPS unit for around $150 (if your device supports it) – but now you have another option…one that you already have in the palm of your hand….

googlemapsmobilesIntroducing "My Location" technology which uses cell tower ID information for a rough estimate of where you are. Since only around 15% of phones have GPS, this technology is certainly welcome news to the consumer who doesn’t need to purchase anything more as it is built in and available on most smartphones, including all color BlackBerry devices, all Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition devices, most Windows Mobile devices, newer Sony Ericsson devices, and some Motorola devices.

In addition to adding location capabilities, the other advantage to this technology is that is faster to obtain a location than GPS as well the ability to work well indoors due to the reliance only on cell towers.
