Mobile Device Users, It Is Time To Meet Your DOOM!

When I was in college, the 3-D first person, shooter game was just coming to fruition.  Games like Wolfenstein 3-D, Duke Nukem, and later, Quake, were all the rage.  The King of them all, however, was Doom.  Yes, Doom.  The granddaddy of the genre.  The one that paved the way for games like Quake and Call of Duty 2.  Doom is what I was probably doing at 3:00 am the night before my final exam (uh, Dad, by Doom, of course, I mean I was cracking the books).

There have been plenty of unofficial ports of Doom for Windows Mobile Devices, and some of them are pretty good.  But there is just nothing like the real thing (baby).  And we are about to get just that.  Id Software recently announced the creation of id Mobile.  Along with a mobile version of Doom, id Mobile hopes to bring official versions of Wolfenstein and Quake.  No word on when we might see any of these, but I will be holding my breath in anticipation.

Until then, you might also want to check out this interview with John Carmack himself in Gamedaily.com and the id Software website.
