Demos of Android, Google Mobile Platform, Are Up

As promised, Google has released their Software Development Kit (SDK) for their new Android mobile platform today.  They’ve also put up a series of new videos which give a deeper introduction to Android than we got last week.

There’s plenty of detail on architecture and APIs and real techie, developer stuff – but there is also this Demo video, that shows off Android on a couple of prototype devices.

Some quick things that caught my eye on the demo are:

  • Lots of mention of 3G data speeds – wonder who that’s a dig at
  • Happy on a variety of screen sizes
  • Also lots of controlling the screen with just a finger
  • Quake looked pretty good
  • Prototypes still seemed to require several hardware buttons along left and right side of the bigger device
  • $10 million to be doled out to application developers who come up with best / most innovative Android apps – anybody wanna become a mobile developer now?

Pretty interesting video, and some of the others in the series are as well.  It sure becomes clear that they’ve been at this for a while – and are going to be making a big push in the mobile space.

They stole A LOT! That’s really not playing fair.

Ironic that they’re going to reward the “innovative” apps ;)
