Update Countdown to Being Better, What?
Update
Microsoft is up to something!
Maybe it’s a reaction to Google’s Android invasion. It could be the end of a Beta Development program that is being finalised. I’m not sure but I think we are going to see new versions of Microsoft’s online applications. Might we see Reader, Writer, Messenger, Family Safety etc updated today to down play the affect of the Android release from Google. I’m not sure what’s coming but the clocks ticking!
Countdown to being better
Technorati tags: Microsoft, news, online, beta, update, jamm, just another mobile monday
So I was looking at this website and it was counting down and I got under 40 minutes, I looked away for a moment and bang, it reset, see the photo below.
The anticipation was high, I was really excited about some big announcement, whoosh the rug’s pulled out from under me. Come on that’s not fair is it Bill, build up my expectations and rip them down in an instant. Oh hang on, remember Windows ME and more recently Vista… WM5 WM6… ? A worldwide publicity stunt like this is probably a well thought out campaign to refocus users back to Microsoft’s mediocre offerings, with a promise of something big, and a relatively small, buggy payoff.
So here I am twiddling my thumbs, transfixed by the countdown timer, is it going to change my life? I think not. Then there’s this
That small print at the bottom says the seventh of November, where I am it’s the seventh already, what a load of codswallop!
Now the Gphone rumour was well orchestrated and played out over a period of time, with lots of "chinese whisper" type elaboration. Compare that to a newly introduced, seemingly perpetual clock, and I wouldn’t want to take a poll on which is more compelling, and I’m known to be obsessive!

Is it really only 1,5 hour away in your timezone?
They must be launching it at midnight then, for me it says “10 hours, 38 minutes” etc.
Please do update us about the news, if possible!

That changed back to 1 Day one hour 30 something minutes, and then this morning, the countdown had gone and November 7th was the set date.

Okay. WTF?! I had 19 hours yesterday. What the heck are we counting down to? It says the countdown to something better. Well the counter hit zero … and as usual it looks like Microsoft spewed out another healthy dose of the same old crap… pardon same old counter.
I wonder if in 1 day and x number of hours we’ll get to see more of the same!!! OOOhhhh that’ll be fun! It’s like the upgrade from WM5 to WM6. They give you dates … then they delay… then they give you dates … then they delay … then finally they give you the same old OS only with new colors!!!
Yes. I’m cranky today.

28 hours to go here, does this remind you of Win 98 defrag, all those little blue boxes?
It looks like finalisation of Windows Live desktop apps, probably an attempt to rival all of Google’s apps, with advertising!
Is that cynical of me?

You’re right … defrag used to do that kinda junk all the time. Looked like you were almost done and then BANG! back to 15% complete.
See … Microsoft Internet More of the Same Edition.

Codswallop! I think I have a new favorite word.
Actually, without sounding too geeky, this reminds me of the Death Star scene at the end of Star Wars. Standby…standby…standby….standby.
Are you still standing by??
Also, at the bottom of the screen is a little thing where you can enter your email address to be notified. But that returns an error. Ugh.

I didn’t get the error, and I’ve entered a couple of my redundant addresses, but I’ll be happy to, get email notification, although I’m getting really good at counting backwards!

All that suspense and all we get is the same thing we have been getting for years? What a waste.

Hmm maybe we should only get excited if they are counting down longer (a week or so). I did read about this on several blogs but it wasn’t big news.
Might be cool for the English people though.

As this is a family oriented site I will not express my dissatisfaction here, suffice to say “codswallop” is rather tame!!
