Entry Level GPS Phone, Hop On?

hopOnLogo Hop On Inc. are introducing a new GSM tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz phone featuring the SiRF StarIII GPS chipset. The 1833 is a good looking candy bar style phone, with a 2 megapixel camera, a 2.8″ 240 x 320 resolution (QVGA) screen and is light weight. Said to be a relatively inexpensive inclusion to the mobile phone arena, the 1883 is now in production and hopefully available soon.

hop1883-gps-phone These days a phone with GPS capabilities seems to be the norm, whether it be Windows Mobile or Symbian, but the prices are exclusive and limiting. Having true, real time GPS functionality as opposed to using Google maps or windows Live for directions is a huge improvement, and as this becomes an accepted inclusion in mobile devices we all can only benefit from what will become second nature. No more blow away fold out maps in the car, or searching through road atlas’s. Informationweek has a great article on the adoption of GPS on mobile devices, highlighting the timeline for GPS standardisation. Oh, and I like the companies logo!
