Is this anybody’s business but yours?
Is how you use your mobile device/phone anyone else’s problem? do you want that shared or used for service providers to assess the effectiveness of their service? Now I’m in Australia and I’ve never heard of this before, but I think if any one tried this here there’d be hell to pay. Mind you, they have not gone so far as to share anyone’s name or number (yet), however, Verizon is basically going to collect all of their customers data analyze it, and distribute it to their affiliates to better sell the services they provide
customer proprietary network information (CPNI)
If your with Verizon you have 30 days from receiving postal notification from them to say NO, or your info is out there and that’s that. It’d feel a bit like going to the supermarket in your pajamas. Sort of exposed and vulnerable. What is the purpose of collecting and sharing this information?
In order to better serve your communications needs and to identify, offer and provide products and services to meet your requirements, we need your permission to share this information among our affiliates, agents and parent companies (including Vodafone) and their subsidiaries,
Targeting customers to sell them more services, by increasing the amount of mobile spam is one reason that comes to mind. It’s an intelligent way for Verizon to take advantage of their more complacent users to include an opt out option, than to offer an opt in option. Verizon is gambling that more people will not get around to opting out, than would participate in a program like this for their own advantage. Check Your Mail!
