Myvu Unveils the Universal Edition
Several months ago, I had the opportunity to review the Myvu Personal Media Viewer. Although I loved this “video eyewear” which displayed the image from an iPod video right before your eyes, I had one major complaint: they only worked with iPods.
Now, Myvu is expanding their line of personal media viewers, and looking beyond just iPods. Their new universal line will connect with virtually any video player with a standard AV plug, and many others, including the Archos 605, Creative Zen, and Microsoft Zune. Unfortunately for me, adaptors for the Sansa View and Sony Walkman Video are still in the works.

WESTWOOD, Mass. (October 10, 2007) – Myvu Corporation, the world leader in video eyewear, unveiled the new myvu universal edition today at $199.95, expanding its award-winning line of myvu personal media viewers to support mobile phones, portable DVD players and other media players like Archos, Zen and Microsoft’s ZuneTM. Myvu universal supports any fifth generation video Apple iPod® and will expand support to include the newly introduced iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod classic later this fall.
For people who love taking their favorite video downloads with them, but hate nosy neighbors peeking over their shoulders or lugging around laptops, myvu universal edition turns portable media players into hands-free, private cinemas. With a breakthrough industrial and ergonomic design, myvu is the only video eyewear that is truly mobile, comfortable and well-fitted. By simply connecting myvu universal to an mp4 player, portable DVD player or camcorder, anyone can sit back and watch their favorite videos come to life on myvu’s vivid virtual screen. And soon, myvu universal will also support all Apple iPod with video models, including the new iPod models that were just introduced, with an accessory cable that will be sold separately.
“With the astounding success of our myvu Made for iPod edition, we see tremendous opportunity to expand into new markets by offering consumers a personal viewing experience across a broad range of devices,” said Kip Kokinakis, president and CEO of Myvu. “The myvu universal edition is a key step in our development cycle as we look ahead to 2008, which will bring important innovations that will change portable entertainment in dramatic and compelling ways.”
Myvu universal works with most devices that have an AV out jack, making it compatible with select mobile phones and most portable media players. Myvu universal comes with the following accessories to take any video mobile:
- The smallest and lightest video eyewear available
- Pendant for power and picture control
- Comfortable noise canceling in-ear earbuds
- Low-profile design so you can see your surroundings
- Up to 4-hour battery life supplied by ultra-lightweight rechargeable battery
- Connectivity kit for most portable media players
Myvu has been widely recognized for its innovation. Most recently, myvu won the Best of RetailVision’s “Best New Technology” award and the company was also named one of the AlwaysOn 100. Earlier this year with the debut of myvu Made for iPod, myvu was named the “Best Wearable Display” for 2006 by iLounge, an Innovations 2007 Design and Engineering award recipient by The Consumer Electronics Association, and a 2007 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum.
Myvu universal edition will be available this fall for $199.95 agt www.myvu.com.
