Review: JAVOedge JAVOClear Case for iPhone
Not too long ago we took a look at some JAVOedge gear and shortly after that I got a hold of a shiny new Apple iPhone. So naturally my next stop was to see what kind of cases I could wrap my new lovely in. Turns out JAVOedge already had that covered and offered to send me over a review unit of the JAVOedge JAVOClear case. The JAVOClear cases are made of a very clear poly-carbonate which makes this case not only temperature resistant (won’t crack in the cold) and also impact resistant so it can protect your hot little device from not-so-hot impacts. Now, I’m not going to say you should plan on a 5 foot drop test the minute you get your new case as there’s a good chance the screen alone wouldn’t survive the impact, but I think it’s safe to say this case would keep on truckin!
The case itself comes in four pieces – the front and back of the case, a snap-on belt clip “button” and the belt clip itself. Also, note this review is looking at the “smoke” colored case, there is also a “clear” version available from JAVOedge.
Putting the case all together is super simple – there’s a set of clips on each side that snap together when you put the case on the iPhone. The case design also ensures there are no clips on the outside so the case retains nice rounded sides just like the iPhone.
Things I like
- Easy on, Easy off – it’s not a chore to put the iPhone into the case or take it out depending on your situation
- Makes an already solid feeling device feel even more solid – there’s no “gaps” inside the case so the iPhone doesn’t slide around
- Easy on, Easy off of the belt clip. I’m not a fan of belt clips on some case style and this is one of them. The clip is excellent – but this case works so well for pocketing that I never much bother with it.
- Keeps the iPhone sexy. Too many cases out there hide this looks, the JAVOClear doesn’t.
- Very little slip. One of my complaints is that the iPhone is pretty slippery… the JAVOClear despite being a smooth plastic is very grippy, and I feel a lot less likely to drop the iPhone with it on.
Things I don’t
- Button cutouts could be a little better placed – namely the “down” volume button on the side is a little tough to get to because the case edge meets the button edge (see image above).
- All the button cut-outs feel a little sharp (except for the home button). Not sharp enough to cut mind you, but not smooth either.
- The sleep button cutout needs to be a bit bigger to make that tiny button easy to hit.
Wrap-up
Simple enough to sum this one all up. The pros of this case outweigh the cons by a pretty good margin. While I have some minor gripes about button cutouts and smoothness of the cutout edges, they are minor and are definitely not deal breaker issues from my point of view. Overall the case build, fit and finish are really good, and I feel a lot better about the iPhone being in my pocket when I’m taking risks with the JAVOClear on. Oh … and it doesn’t hide the sexy!
