Verizon’s LG Voyager to go up against the iPhone, and offers 3 new phones
Verizon yesterday launched a strong response to Apple’s iPhone with its introduction of four slick new phones, the Juke, Pearl, Venus and Voyager.
The Samsung Juke is the first "flick-phone" (the keypad literally flicks out at 180 degrees for access) of its kind to enter US markets, boasts A2DP, 2 GB storage, a VGA camera with Nightshot, and Bluetooth stereo support.
The Pearl 8130 is Verizon’s first BlackBerry with high-speed EV-DO, Verizon’s VZ Navigator service and built-in GPS capability. The latter feature allows audible turn-by-turn navigation and users can access over 14 million points of interest.
The LG Venus might make the fashionistas happy with two dual-front screen, with touch input and vibration feedback and offers a microSD memory slot offering a maximum of 8 GB storage expansion.
Verizon’s exclusive Voyager by LG features a large external touchscreen, opens to reveal a full QWERTY keypad, has an HTML browser, full V CAST ability, with V Cast Video, V Cast Mobile TV, V Cast Music, and can handle .mp3, .wma and unprotected .aac files. Along with its high-speed EV-DO 3G access, the Voyager also has a microSD slot that can support up to 8 GB of memory.
Verizon hopes the LG Voyager can help lure folks away from the iPhone, or at least keep Verizon customers happy and prevent them from jumping ship. I’m not sure AT&T iPhone customers will be dropping their iPhones for the Voyager, but the Voyager should provide some healthy competition.
