And the winner is…
Posted by: i-bystander on Oct 31 2007 - 580 views
Our good friends at Proporta recently snagged the Best Accessory Award 2007 from PDA Essentials for their Mobile Survival Kit. This extremely popular device can keep any phone, MP3 player or USB device fully charged - all you need to do is plug in any USB-powered mobile device into the battery’s standard USB port. You can use this an an emergency charger when you’re away from your desk and you’ll never run out of power again.
The awards ceremony took place at London’s BAFTA Theater last October 24 and is the only one of its kind in the UK designed to specifically recognise achievements in the field of PDA, smartphones, satnav and mobile devices. We all know about Proporta’s quality products and this is another feather in their cap, so join us in congratulating Proporta on a job well done!

GE/NBC Partner with 4INFO to Bring You SMS Content
Posted by: tjchan on Oct 31 2007 - 254 views
According to jkOnTheRun, 4INFO has partnered with GE/NBC Universal to bring you free ad- supported health tips, fantasy sports player statistics and custom, user-defined alerts. With 4INFO, the ads you get are targeted advertisements with interactive response campaigns on behalf of its advertisers.
Learn more at: http://www.4info.net or send a text to 44636.
Just make sure you have a healthy quota of SMS before you subscribe - unless you want to be pounded by 4INFO in what appears to be a glitch reported by one JAMM reader who got 1 SMS every 30 seconds - 2 mins (SHEESH!). Good news is that 4INFO is quick at looking into the issues and at this time, a solution is probably already on the way. However, that’s still a lot of SMS messages…240 or so in a typical human sleep cycle of 8 hours…

Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for the 8525 Tomorrow
Posted by: PatrickJ on Oct 31 2007 - 1,014 viewsHTC has just given you one less reason to upgrade to the AT&T Tilt by finally posting an official Windows Mobile 6 update for the 8525 / Hermes. From
todaytomorrow through February of next year, 8525 owners can download their first non-cooked version of Redmond’s latest mobile OS, giving them some much-needed conveniences like simplified tethering — and a much-needed refresh for an operating system that’s grown a little long in the tooth.
About time too. There have been ‘unofficial’ ROMs for this out for several months - but now it looks like we’re finally getting one from HTC themselves.
Even though WM6 is not a huge leap forward, it seems to have enough little extras to make the update worthwhile.
There seems to be some confusion on the best links for grabbing the update, but it looks like THIS AT&T forums thread should have all the details and links.

Google making a face(book) with Maka-Maka?
Posted by: breley on Oct 31 2007 - 484 viewsGoogle’s presumed answer to the social networking Facebook site, its so-called "Maka-Maka", is reportedly just a week or so away from release. Not too much is known about Maka-Maka just yet, but it is rumored to have a goodly amount of third party support and a lot of open applications for developers to delve into. With Google’s search engine capabilities and access to users interests, it seems only logical they would have a knack for setting up a social networking product to match people with similar interests.
Assuming no delays, date of release for Maka-Maka is speculated to be around November 5.

Is Verizon saying "If we can’t beat Google, we’ll partner with Google?"
Posted by: breley on Oct 31 2007 - 549 viewsAfter getting something of a black eye in court last week in a legal spar with Google Inc., Verizon Wireless is in serious discussions with Google regarding the possibility of carrying phones built around a new Google operating system.
That’s something of an odd turnaround given Verizon was in court just last week trying to prevent Google from compelling wireless carriers to open up their networks to more services, but ended up dropping the appeal.
In any case, if the partnership is successful, Google would get access to nearly 64 million potential customers. However, the deal may still be far from fruition.
