Resco releases Explorer 6.15
If you own a Pocket PC or Windows Mobile device, then you have probably realized that the included file explorer…well, it is not very useful or functional. Sure, it will help you find files (kinda) but not much else. Once you get past this realization, it is pretty much just a short hop on over to Resco Explorer 2007, which is probably the second most important and useful program on my device today (sorry, Resco, but Spb Mobile Shell really is that good). Aside from just finding files, it adds a great deal of functionality which you may have been used to from your Windows file explorer, including: encryption, drive mapping, registry editor, file compression, a true recycle bin, an FTP add-in, zip compression, even a today screen plug-in, and many more.
Earlier this week, Resco released a minor upgrade of this popular program, to version 6.15. New features in this version include:
-
Status bar
-
File decryption in memory
-
Quick-search bar
-
Advanced Network Settings
-
File Types Highlighting
-
Updated Today Plugin with Task Manager
-
Folder Properties — recursive file attribute setting
If you are not using Resco Explorer on your device, this upgrade should provide you with an ideal opportunity to do so. At $29.95, this is a bargain. Of course, if you are purchased Resco Explorer in the last year, then this should be a free upgrade for you, so check it out today.

I purchased Resco Utility Package (including Explorer) in December 2006, so the update to Explorer 2007 (or 6.00) was a free one. This one should be free as well but the reg key from version 6.00 did no longer work for me. I e-mailed customer support so I’m waiting for a reply, but if other people have the same problem I’d love to hear it.

Let me know what they tell you SPM, I think I may have just missed the upgrade window on this one as it is not showing up in the online updater on my device.

Will do. By the way, people seem to quote the wrong list of new features. If you take a look at http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/history.htm you will see that these features were part of v6.00
Clinton Fitch has it right:
The new 6.15 version has added three new but key features:
• RAR decompressions support
• Folder auto-refresh optimized for Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6
• Registry and FTP Favorites

Thanks, SPM. I though the new features list didn’t look right. But that is actually straight from their website. I am betting they never updated it after the last upgrade.

Resco allows for updates within 1 year of purchase. I obtained Explorer 2005 in February, so technically I should be entitled to a free upgrade. Oops, looks like I’ve got to email them too.

Yeah, Breley. You are definately entitled to an upgrade. And I recommend doing so as 2007 is a vast improvement over 2005 (which was also fantastic). I believe that with 2007, they changed the format for their registration codes. At the time, I had to contact them as well. There is a form on their website and it is pretty easy to do.

A topic was created about the registration keys not working. One can follow it here:

Doug, I do own a copy of Resco 2007 v.6.10, but that registration code won’t work with v.6.15. I’ll see if smpwinkel can find anything out on their forum, and I’ll see if I get an email response back from Resco support.

The whole thing is very strange. It is like the update that never was. The info on their website is old, the auto updater is not updated and no registration codes seem to work. Very odd. And frustrating for someone like me who has to do it right away as my year is about to expire.

Doug, in that case I’d suggest that you just contact Support yourself. If you are currently still allowed a free update, just claim it today and don’t wait until the problem is fixed. If you claim within your “one year”, you shouldn’t be the victim of their disability to provide you with the key and they should solve it for you. At least that’s what 3 years of Law ocllege makes me think!

Thanks for the link, SPM. I sent an email, but it turns out I am past the deadline by a few month. Th upgrde doesn’t seem worth it for 50%. So, maybe next time )
