The Ringle. Stupid is as stupid does.

Show of hands… Who still buys CDs?

(Up goes my hand) … but I can explain. I for the first time in 2 odd years I purchased 2 CDs the other night. From of all places Target. Why would you do something that stupid you ask? Well simple – they were on sale for $9.99 and my daughter and wife wanted them. Naturally we went home and ripped them to iTunes… (because I am Apple FanBoy). Not really but I figured I’d cut that one off at the pass.

However I don’t think in all my time that I’ve ever purchased a CD single. Seemed like a huge waste to me back in the day because it was another CD I would have to carry around and it only had one or two songs on it. Well it looks like someone in the Recording Industry thinks that tossing another song on there and giving you a ringtone will be just enough to entice you to buy one. For around $6-7. Wait let that sink in for a second. SEVEN dollars for this:

(1) The song you want

(2) A “remix” of the song you want – which more than likely is going to suck.

(3) An older song from the same group … but you don’t get to pick the song – and it’s likely to suck too.

(4) A ringtone of the song you want … but you don’t get to pick the section of said song that becomes said ringtone.

I think this summed it up perfectly.
