No Windows Mobile on HTC Shift?

Apparently, the HTC Shift will NOT run Windows Mobile, but only a very cut-down incarnation of it, that pretty much provides modem and push mail functionality, and very little else.

I haven’t kept up that well with this device, but my impression was that (like the mythical DualCor cPC) one of ,or THE, unique selling point was its dual-boot ability. I even thought of the name as a bit of a play on this ability – shifting or toggling back and forth between the mobile and full Windows OS.

I’d say this takes some of the shine off this device. It will certainly be interesting to hear more detail on exactly what the ‘cut-down’ OS will entail on the Shift.

I ccould have swore that it was going to run WM – didn’t GottaBeMobile have a video hands on with it and they said it had WM?!

I think I’ve read that it runs a mobile version of Vista. The specs are at:
