iPhone Unlocking Software Goes Live

iphonesimfreegraphic1

iPhoneSimFree has gone live with their iPhone unlocking software today, as expected. It’s now available through online shops in the US, Australia, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. Reported prices are between $50 – 100.

There are no real guarantees about whether this solution will continue to work as Apple issues software updates for iPhone. It is only tested to work up to the current 1.0.2 update. Here’s the relevant section of their FAQ:

While we have taken all possible measures to ensure that the phone will remain unlocked, we can only guarantee the current released versions of updates (up to and including 1.0.2). With any of these versions, even if the phone is fully restored, the phone will remain unlocked.
If an update is required, we will offer it for free IF we are able to provide it.

For more information – there’s even a video demo from Gizmodo showing the software working – and the list of sites where you can purchase the unlock software, visit iPhoneSimFree’s home page.

Well at least they are willing to offer it for free later should Apple re-lock it.

$50 seems a little steep though. Especially given that a launch is immenent in Europe and AT&T will no longer have a stranglehold on the device.
