NBC: Adios, Apple…meet my new friend Amazon

nbc appleX

According to CNET News, Amazon seems to have caught NBC on the rebound from its soured relationship with Apple, after NBC made the announcement it was not interested in renewing a long-term contract with Apple’s iTunes distribution of TV shows due to Apple not offering more favorable terms.  In response, Apple stated it would no longer sell NBC’s shows for the upcoming season.  So while you may be able to get custom ringtones for your iPhone, there will be no more Heroes on it.  Or to (badly) paraphrase Tina Turner, “You don’t get another He-ro…”

As a result, the likes of Heroes and The Office episodes will make their debut at Amazon’s Unbox beginning this upcoming Monday, according to statements released by both companies.

Amazon customers will be treated to free downloads of pilot shows for new series (such as  Chuck and Bionic Woman) in advance of their respective network premiers.  Other TV shows will be available the day after they air on Amazon Unbox.  To sweeten the appeal, Amazon and NBC Universal are offering a 30 percent off deal when subscribers purchase a complete season in advance, in addition to a range of additional packages.

Three JAMM posts on the latest Apple announcements and none of them concerning the one announcement that really got me interested: 160 Gb iPod classic. I know you linked to it but I was hoping to hear JAMMers take on this. I’ve never owned anything Apple but I’ve always said that if the iPod broke 100 Gb there was a good chance I’d get on board.

Now I’ll just wais six weeks for them to cut 33% off the price and I’m in ;)

One last thing: the Tina Turner reference was bad. Very bad. Everyone involved should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves :)
