iPod Touch – iPhone Without The Phone Part – and Lots More Apple Event News
As usual, lots of exciting news at Apple’s ‘The Beat Goes On’ event today. And as usual, Engadget’s live coverage is excellent. A full refresh or replace for the entire iPod line, and the much-rumored ‘Fat’ Nano launch are just part of today’s highlights so far.
The iPod Touch is the other big news at this point. This is the iPhone without the phone portion. It offers:
Multi touch, widescreen iPhone display, Cover Flow, Wifi, Safari / YouTube… “We’re going to offer it in two configurations, the first is 8GB, the second is 16GB of storage. Again, how do you fit all this in here?”
10:48am – So, 8GB is $299… the price for the 16GB is $399.” Less applause on the second one. “Both models are available in just a few weeks… they’ll be shipping this month.”
Pretty cool. WiFi and the Safari browser. A lot of emphasis on WiFi that you can actually use – wonder who that’s a dig at.
UPDATE: iTunes WiFi Music Store announced too. Browse and buy wirelessly, sync with iTunes etc. And it’ll be coming to the iPhone via a software update this month – nice.
Anyway, check out the Engadget coverage HERE

I was very unexcited about the big announcement. But the Apple ipod Touch sounds like a great product, I must admit. It’s sort of like a pda/mp3 player modernized. I’m very tempted.

Oh, how about a stinkin’ $200.00 price drop. Luckily I’m only on my 4th day. LOL.

Still like the Zune, although I think MS has even more of an uphill struggle after today’s news.
Price cut = yeah, that seems to have seriously upset a whole bunch of iPhone owners …
