Apple cuts 8GB iPhone price to $399

WHY THE HECK DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME???!!!

With the new heat the iPhone will be getting from the iPod Touch, Apple decided to lower the barrier of entry to a much more palatable $399, and that’s for the 8GB model, which just yesterday was rocking at $599 pricepoint. It also looks like Apple is doing away with the 4GB version, which was seriously lagging behind its big brother in sales, but there’s no official word yet.

No word on the 3G model … which I’m seeking almost as desperately as Susan. Anyone younger than like 25 just went “What the heck is that about? Who the heck is Susan?”

And in other news…

The iPod Nanowill from here on out at JAMM be referred to as the iPod Fatty. And I want one. They can keep the Touch… I’d rather spend the same amount of cash on 160GB in my pocket.

Hey patrick, can’t you get the price difference? Or actually return the refurb, and get the brand new for $100 cheaper? Anyway, just got back from the apple store and got my $200+tax. Now, I can get the Nano too. Oops, I mean the iPod FATTY…

;)

Okay, I take that back.

Now I can get the new ZEN. Unless, the FATTY have FM… I need my Raaaaaaadio!

Wooooooooooohoooo!!!

Check Amazon on the Zen. I know you can preorder it but I don’t recall whether there was a date attached to it. I think that looks like one of the best around.

Congrats, Brandon. While I can predict some of what you might have to say, I am looking forward to your comments.

OK, so here is my question. With the 8GB iPhone now costing under $400, why would you buy an iPhone Touch fro almost the same money?

Since the iPhone is not available in the Netherlands until December, I’m not sure if I got this right. But if you get the iPhone, you also need to get a contract with some service provider, right? So that would cost additional money. If you already have a phone or PPC, you wouldn’t need that (having the iPhone for +/- $400 might be fine but not if you are also bound to a 1 or 2 year contract which costs you money as well), while the iPhone Touch doesn’t keep costing you money in the next months.

I’m not sure if I understood everything very well so if I’m wrong anywhere, please explain to me how it does work! :)

Exactly spm … to buy an iphone and make it usable it requires activation on a provider’s network. The iPhone won’t even let you look at the interface until you “activate” it.

If you have T-Mobile and you really just want all the features of the iphone (like safari, ipod) then the touch makes sense.

If you want the PHONE then the iPhone makes sense.

And out of curiosity … what do you think I might say?!

OK. I didn’t realize the iPhone ws all locked up like that. I thought it would be like a WinMo phone. If you don’t get service then you can still use it, you just can’t use the phone/data and it would become the equivelant of a standard PDA/WinMo Classic. OK. So thanks for that clarification.

That’s just the initial phone activation. I’ve not tried it yet without a sim after the initial activation…

I would be very curious to know whether it works at all without a SIM installed.

I do wish there was a way to get Safari-like browsing on the WinMo. Although I have to say, I took some great advice and have been trialing Opera. It is a world better than PIE.
