Lots Of New Goodies Coming For You Non-Windows Mobile Users

One of my biggest pet peeves about Windows Mobile phones is the amount of onboard memory…or lack thereof.  My Mogul, for example, sports a whopping 250 MBs of Storage Memory, much of which was already in use when I received the device.  Program memory is even worse.  Of the 64MBs it shipped with, I typically have access to 15-20 MBs.

Then, along came the iPhone with its 8GBs of onboard storage.  Even with the 2GB storage card in my Mogul, the iPhone just knocks its socks off.  You would think that HTC and i-Mate and some other Windows Mobile 6 manufacturers would have clued in by now, but I have not seen that happening.  On the other hand, underdog Nokia is skyrocketing to the top of the pack with two new 8GB offerings.

image First comes the Nokia N81, with dedicated gaming keys for the new N-Gage and Ovi services we reported on last week.  There will be an 8 GB version and a smaller version which will only cost slightly less money (in other words, splurge on the 8GB).  Of course, both will include Wi-Fi and 3G service.

At the same time, Nokia is also expected to release an 8GB version of their popular N95.  The new N95 will also feature a 2.8 inch QVGA screen, as well as Wi-Fi and 3G support.

Pricing for both phones is in Euros only, which would lead one to believe that we will not see them in the states anytime soon.  Still, it does lead to the question, come one Windows Mobile developers.  What the hell are you waiting for?  Why are we still sitting on 250MBs of RAM in the Sprint Mogul, which is the most popular Windows Mobile Phone available today
