A Week With the BlueAnt X3 Bluetooth Headset
You may remember my earlier post about the Bluetooth BlueAnt X3 headset in which I raved about the compact size, the large buttons, the ease of use, the fact that it came with a wall charger and a car charger and how excited I was to get a new gadget.

So did I like this unit? Was it all I expected? How does it compare to my other headset, the Motorola H500? Read on after the break…
The Motorola H500 is a very easy unit to use. It was simple to pair, and it sounds fine, and it does everything I want. It simply does the job. But I grew bored of it and gave it to my wife. I want more excitement out of a bluetooth headset (is there such a thing)?
The BlueAnt paired easily to both my Motorola i580, a Blackberry Curve, and a HP iPaq 6925. It worked well while paired. Here’s the odd part. It would not reconnect. To reconnect you simply press the Multifunction button once for the first phone, twice for the second or three times for the third. It never worked. I started over and eliminated all the pairings and just paired it to one phone, yet still it would not reconnect unless I manually went into my phone settings to reconnect. My H500 easily reconnects. I went through the instructions multiple times thinking I missed something, but then it hit me. The Motorola H500 works and the BlueAnt doesn’t.
When I first received the H500, it was my first bluetooth headset, and I was up and running in a couple minutes. It was so easy. So why was I looking for a more sexy device when I had a great one?
I just returned the BlueAnt. Instead of getting the H500, I’m stepping up a bit and getting the Motorola HS850. Our outside Tech Consultant has one and I know they work great. Stay tuned for a review…

Steve, instead of that one, I would recommend the Aliph Jawbone or the Sound ID SM100. Those are the best two earpieces I have reviewed.

that’s a shame, my X3 micro works great for me…i switch between my mobile, pda and PC with no problems…maybe you had a dud unit. The BlueAnt Z9 is next on my shopping list, have a look http://www.blueantz9.com

My X3 pairs just fine with my phone. I just wish it was more compatible with my ear – the damned thing is so uncomfortable!
