When I would loose my data:
- I would loose my daily alarm clock and all my appointments, hence get for work, forget all my important appointments with customers and eventually probably get fired for all this.
- I would forget all birthdays, anniversaries of (and appointments with) friends, so I would end up miserably and alone (and unemployed), with just my cat around
- forget to feed my cat (daily reminders are gone), so she would run away looking for a new boss, who would hopefully be using sprite backup

… that’s get LATE for work of course

Count me in!

Hypothetical disaster….. if my phone crashed and had to be hard reset and I had no backup I would not have the settings for my Exchange server and would probably miss vital client emails. From there, I’d lose business, my house, my car and have no means of supporting my family. From there, it’d be a small step to life on the streets and slowly edging into the abyss. Rush me a copy of Sprite Backup – I’ve scared myself ;)

knaak & melvyn – buckets! I am shedding buckets of tears at your hypothetical plight. That’ll be 2 entries each.

I’d love to have a copy!

If I lost all of the data on my WindozeMotile phone, my undergarments would be in quite a bunch. I would lose all of the major, minor, and minuscule ideas, meetings, tasks, projects, appointments, deadlines, notes, etc., I store in it for my dissertation, which I would like to finish SOON. Also, I would forget to call my mom, my sister, my best friend, my bookie, blar blar blar, because all of their numbers and email addresses are stored there, and are not on paper anywhere.

My mini SD card crashed right before I went on holiday and it was too late to get a new one (it was saturday evening and we’d leave monday morning so shops were closed). The week before I had to do a hard reset so luckily both events didn’t happen at the same time. THAT would be a disaster, but what happened just before my holiday wasn’t a lot of fun either…

Cool contest!!

(btw, I’m going on holiday tomorrow (again), but Doug probably has my personal info in case I win! I’d hate to delay the process of getting prizes to the winners in case I’d be one of them)

I’ve been using Sprite on my iPaq 4700 for years, but I just got a Sprint Mogul, which runs WM6.

I wasn’t going to renew with Sprint, because of their odd cancellation policies, but after talking with them, and with other companies, I came to the conclusion that NO wireless company has great customer service, unfortunately…so I might as well stick with the one I have history with, since it gives me a slight advantage.

Anyway, I’ve always liked Sprite, and it has saved my bacon more than once! I was visiting relatives across the country from where I lived and where my computer with ALL of my software and ActiveSync was. I had brought with me only one charging cable and a multiadapter, which decided to die on me. My device ran out of juice, and because it was running WM2003SE, no persistent memory which spelled disaster!

I rushed out to a local electronics store to get a new USB AC adapter, and got the device charged again, but of course, no data!

Since I make it a point to back up at least once per day (or when I enter banking info in my check register) all I had to do was restore from my most recent back up, and viola, back in business!

The cartoon in the link below describes the experience perfectly!

Please enter me.

Back in my palm days I attended a class for my work. It was a two week course and on the second to last day the file disappeared. All of my notes were gone and I had to take a final exam! Luckily I did have a backup program and after being severely ticked off for an hour or so I remembered having it. I restored the file and was fine. I am currently without a backup program on Windows Mobile. I also have another class coming up.

Hypothetical disaster -I would loose all those invaluable bits and pieces of great humour I have gathered while reading newsgroups on my N560;)

Sign me up for one.

As I like to evaluate software, a backup comes in handy if there are device conflicts. Also, I don’t have to re-enter all of the individual ringtones that I have assigned to specific people. And last but not least, As I schedule my life using the PIM functions of my phone, I would not know where to be. Thank Goodness for the Crisp Clean Limon taste of Sprite.

I will be in for this as well…
If I lose my data, I am going to spend 1 whole day to get it back what it was before – restoring contact info, email, application configurations, preferences, …
That will burn my weekend, upset my family, make me gloomy as I will have to miss some calls, manage with a small notebook to take down notes….and that will trigger my asthma, I might have to be sent to the clinic…

Great responses so far – lots of tears being shed at the hypothetical disasters. I think this is also the first use of the phrase ‘undergarments in a bunch’ on the site (Well done, Z) – though we may have used knickers in a twist before. Anyway, two entries for all so far, except weiganla. He gets 10 coz he scares us now with all this Vinnie The Hammer talk (joke) …

Great software great giveaway. I’ve been using version 5 and really love it.

Hypothetical disaster? Can’t imagine losing all my data without backup. I will have to spend the whole weekend setting up the PDA, and another week or so to try retrieve bits n pieces that I lost … software registration info, eWallets, Notes, Appointments, Contacts, Tasks, ebooks … sighhh :(

Great job on the nice new site layout. Its been a while since I last visited JAMM and at first I thought I was on a different site. :) )

Count me in this contest please.

Disaster: I had my PDA phone for a couple of months back then. It was a gorgeous summer then and a few friends and I went to the pool for a swim. Having forgotten to remove my PDA from my shorts pocket, I jumped in the water, realizing after a few minutes what just happened. It was funny after a few minutes, but slowly reality crept in, that I lost all my contacts, appointments, tasks and files. Oh how I wished I had a backup back then. Replacing the PDA was easy, but remembering the contents was a nightmare. :(

Thanks JAMM and Sprite.

I would love to own this software…
If I lose my data, I would go hysterical…
Because I would have lost all my contacts which essentially means the access to my grapevine. I would miss out getting in touch with my network of gossippers, rumour mongers, what not. I will suffer from withdrawal symptoms, probably go mad and will probably have to be sent to a mental institute for review…

The worst thing that could happen to me is to lose all my precious data on my PDA.
All my fond memories – my diaries, my photos, special events such as birthday reminders, will be lost. I might lose my identity overnight and become a walking zombie…

JustMe
Aug 16, 2007

Ah, losing all my PDA data…I dare not even think about this. I will lose track of my diet and exercise regime settings, I will indulge again in my favourite hobby of feasting, snacking, drinking…and very soon, I will be back to round one (instead of square one):-)

I do my company expense claims on my PDA for every trip and I normally accumulate my claims over 4-6 months. So you can imagine how much trouble I would get into if I lose my data. I will be bearing all my official travel costs all by myself, and probably go bankrupt…Sprite Backup, pls help me…

I use a stock tracking application on my PDA.and if I were to lose my data and settings like stocks to track, all my historical transactions, etc, I am really going to be in bad shape, not knowing my profit and loss thus far, whar decisions to make next. This could hurt me badly even for one day.In this volatile trading environnment recently, anyone can imagine my predicament…

Count me in.

I have more than 1,000 contacts. Then birthdays, tax info, tasks for work, etc.
All these info have been collected over 6 years starting with my old Palm m505.
Without my PPC working I feel like naked.
I went through 2 hard resets and I know it’s a nightmare to restore everything back as it was, expecially customization of the device for my needs.

Hypothetical Disaster Story:
Who needs a hypothetical disaster story when I think everyone out there has their own real ones to relate, but here goes?! If I were to lose everything on my current PPC, I would have to re-do every customized setting expecially all of my registry settings. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about all of the little tweaks that I’ve added to my baby…

P.S. I read about this newest version of Sprite Backup and downloaded & installed the trial software two days ago so winning a copy would be oh, so cool! Thanks for the contest!

Aug 16, 2007

Hey Guys – I work for Sprite and have arranged this competition with Patrick so thought I would check out the disaster stories so far.

After drying my eyes I have decided to also include Sprite Terminator in the prize pool. Each winner will receive Sprite Backup 6 FULL version and Sprite Terminator.

Terminator is used to wipe/clear/lock your device if it is stolen or lost. Wipe the contents of the phone and storage cards, clear the data on the phone (can be used if selling the device on) or lock the device requiring a password to unlock device – all commands are issued from a partner phone via SMS. For more information please and a Free Trial see http://www.spritesoftware.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=195

Great job so far – I look forward to reading more disaster stories…..

I need Sprite Backup for sure!

Happened few weeks ago, played around with registry to tweak PPC and must have changed something nasty since unit could not start. Even after soft reseting numerous times! Ops, only way was to do a hard reset and spent 2 days reinstalling and synching :-(

My PPC would of course choose to crash and hard-reset, while I’m on business overseas. The loss of my calendar would mean that I wouldn’t know who I was over there to see, I wouldn’t know my flight information on when I’m going home, and I might not even remember where I live (there in the hotel or at home). This would of course cost me my job, I would get deported and not be allowed back, my wife would divorce me, and I wouldn’t get to see my kids. My car would be in some airport parking lot, that I don’t remember, so I would be walking to my next interview wearing the same cloths that I was just deported in. :)

I am abroad for work, PPC hard reset by itself. No more contacts, appointments, tasks. Like back to the middle age. Better fly back home.

Please include me in the contest.

I recently loaded a software that has conflict and my PDA refused to boot correctly after several soft reset. I do not have application that allows me to enter safe mode and remove the application. Only way is to hardreset.

And worst of all, need to catch a flight in few hours time for business trip. And needless to mention, that created stress and panic …

Crampedson
Aug 18, 2007

This sound like some pretty essential software.

This one actually happened to me. I had loaded about 50 programs on my PDA (most of them by hand) and thanks to being stupid enough to defrag the main memory with SKTools, which left my device bricked. Luckily a hard reset got it in working order, but I had to manually reinstall all 50 programs, taking over 6 hours. I need backup…
