Two New WiFi Scanner Apps – PFScan and WiFi Monitor

A good tool for finding available nearby wireless networks, and getting information about them, is an essential for many of our PDAs and smartphone devices. There are a couple of new ones out there just recently – PFScan and WiFi Monitor.

That’s PFScan on the left above, and WiFi Monitor on the right.

Both run on Windows Mobile, from WM2003 right up to Windows Mobile 6, and offer a decent set of features – read on for a little more detail on them ..

PFScan has features including:

  • List networks by SSID
  • Signal strength if available
  • Channel
  • Type
  • Security (WEP or Unsecured)
  • MAC address of the access point
  • Best signal if available
  • Worst signal if available
  • Date and time first seen
  • Date and time of last contact
  • Zoom in on signal for pinpointing (If available)
  • Quick display of active networks
  • Show or hide secure
  • Sound emits a sonar style ping when a new connection is made
  • Show or hide peers
  • Adjustable refresh rate

    WiFi Monitor’s feature list includes:

  • Detailed network info: SSID, signal strength, channel, type and security
  •  Ability to filter displayed networks (hide secure networks and peers)
  •  Sound alerts, when a new network is found
  •  Updates are completely free, for lifetime, for this software.

    WiFi Monitor goes for $4.99 and is available HERE for trial or purchase.

    PFScan is currently $7.95 at the JAMM Store (until end of August), where you can grab a trial or buy it.
