8525 – Finally an *Official* AT&T WM6 Upgrade in the Fall

att8525pic1

Thanks to Jack over at Experience Mobility for the heads-up on this. Looks like AT&T will be pushing out a free Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the 8525 soon:

Look for another upgrade for the AT&T 8525. In Fall 2007, HTC will offer a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade, free to all existing customers.

That’s straight off the HTC AT&T 8525 page. I know, I know – there is already an HTC TyTN WM6 ROM out there that many have chucked onto their 8525s, and some cooked ROMs that take that one forward. But …I’ve seen some scary comments about power-consumption issues with some of those and truthfully, I’d much rather wait for an official ROM when it’s going onto a primary device.

Here’s hoping that Fall in this case means next month!

Once again … this falls under the “I’ll believe it when I see it”, much like the Treo upgrade announced months ago, and the UTMS upgrade announced years ago.

I have the “leaked” OEM rom from HTC that I loaded on my 8525. Works like a charm! No power issues, and the speed in wonderful. No more lag when replying to E-mails, going from landscape mode, etc. It’s a good upgrade.

Steve – thanks for the comment. I may give that one some more thought – especially if there are not any power issues.

Steve,
exited from your news, could you please let me know
where can I down load the WM6 rom and upgrade instructions.

Thanks in advance.

xda-developers.com is a good place to start… google is your friend in this case as well as a simple 8525 wm6 search will net you a bunch of places to get started. :)

But as always – consider yourself warned that there are legal issues with running un-official roms as well as risks involved that may affect device stability.

I’d give you exact links but I promised a while ago to not do so :)
