Contest: You too Can Win Software from Vito Technologies
We at Just Another Mobile Monday are extremely excited to welcome a new member to our stable of contests. Vito Technologies has agreed to support us for a monthly giveaway. Vito has a HUGE library of software for your mobile device, and we will be touching on a lot of it over the coming months.
Not long ago, I received an email from Vito about a new program they developed called FindMe. VITO FindMe is a free GPS utility for Pocket PC Phone Edition that will help your friends immediately find your whereabouts just by sending an SMS. I can think of a lot of uses for such a program, but I want to hear what you think.
Download the program and check it out (did I mention that it is free?). Leave a comment in this post for a chance to win. Send me a screen shot of Vito FindMe for a second chance. You can send screen shots to doug[at] justanothermobilemonday.com (replace the "at" with a "@".) For a third chance, tell me why you think this is a good and useful application (and did I mention, free?)
So, what is the prize, you ask? The winner will have their pick of the recently update AstroNavigator II, Vito ButtonMapper (my favorite Vito program), or Vito Ringtone Editor.
Don’t delay, the contest ends on
Saturday, August 11 at 8:00 pm.
One final quick note about the ending time of this contest. I have received several comments that people in other time zones don’t always know when a contest is ending. In response, we have added a small clock to the JAMM front page which is located on the bottom of the left hand sidebar. This clock is synced to display the time from the JAMM server. As such, all contests are now occurring on JAMM time. When the clock on the left strikes 8:00 pm on Saturday, the contest will end, regardless of what time it might be anywhere else in the world.
Good luck and Happy Finding!

This is not an application I’d use since I don’t have many friends with a PDA, and from those that DO have a PDA, I wouldn’t know who has Vito FindMe. So let’s say there’s one person I know who has FindMe: we’d have to agree on a codeword, then I’d have to send a Text Message, and then when I recieve the reply I’d have to connect to my data plan and get to Google Maps and enter the coordinates.
I can only see myself being interested in a persons location if I need to contact a person, and then I would just call the person to find out where he is before I would even have the reply message with the coordinates, or text the person if there’s no big priority and I’d be afraid that he would be busy.
However, this doesn’t mean that it’s not a good application, just that I’m not part of the people that this product is targeted at!
It’s free, and it makes great use of modern technologies: SMS, unlimited data plans that appear more often, and Google Maps technology. Seeing an arrow pointing at a building where your contact happens to be at that moment IS very cool and probably part of what we think is normal in the future.
I’ve earned my second entrie with this rant, right?
Vito Ringtone Editor looks a lot easier than creating a ringtone on the PC by cutting parts of a song with Audacity, then exporting it to a new file, and moving it to the PPC.
Oh – THANK YOU for the clock. Small children always want more, could you/someone add the date to it? Now when it’s Saturday for me I still have to think “Is it Saturday in the US as well, is it still Friday, or is it Sunday already?”. lol – yes I’m spoiled and lazy!

Oh and I don’t have GPS either, which causes a little compatibility problem with FindMe I believe

SPM, you’re forgetting that there are three apps offered in this contest.
Personally, I have similar issues to SPM’s regarding FindMe but I *am * interested in Button Mapper. A free app (HButton) available on the XDA-devs forums has some of the functionality of Button Mapper but I’ve found it to be unreliable.
I’m still longing for a Windows Mobile equivalent of the four year old Palm OS application TealLaunch:

Um … rants typically around here include some kind of PG rated vulgarity. There was none in that post. So no second entry granted for rant. Doug can determine second entry on merit.
As for the clock. It says AM or PM in the middle. Can you figure it out from there or do we really need to add a date widget as well?
email me – brandon dot steili [at] gmail and we’ll customize the site to your liking
(keeps it outta the comments)

I was thinking that the “It’s free, and…in the future” qualifies for the third entry, which is the second if I don’t send a screenshot – but as you say it’s Doug’s decision.

@ Melvyn – I know, but for now I have my eye on RingtoneManager, but the Button Mapper might be a good addition to my Wizard as well (few buttons
). Well first we’ll have to wait till the end of the contest so I’ve got some time to think.
The thing with button mappers is that basic functionality is all around (the OS itself, iLauncher, SK Tools, WA3, etc) so there’s a lot of overlapping functionality, but the real powerful button managers are more rare.

I like the concept of the FindMe app, although I can imagine that we need more people with GPS enabled devices before it really takes of.
Anyhow, count me in :0)

I am currently on holidays and heavily testing mobile version of JustAnotherMobileMonday:) So let’s count it as the first entry;) One of the uses of this app could be for turists-if someone is not moving for a long time, then maybe something bad has happened to him/her.

I’ve got teenaged cousins, and I know their mother would love to be able to look up their location on her PDA when she’s staying late at the office. Or maybe some kind of contractor could use it to check the location of his team in the field. It’ll probably show up on 24 next season.
However, that’s basically the only circumstance I can think of where the program would be useful: spying on people whom you have verified to have a GPS-enabled smartphone with FindMe and a known password when you have the time, inclination, equipment, and access to go through all the steps before you finally get a location displayed. That’s… a lot of qualifiers.
I’m still rocking a proudly non-smartphone Axim, meaning that FindMe is useless to me in more ways than one — which doesn’t mean it isn’t a pretty cool use of technology.
Hmm, I wonder how many entries this counts as?

Count me in for this contest.
And, for a 2nd chance of winning:
How I would use Vito FindMe?
That is an easy question, I would give my cat my old pda. In that case, I would always be able to find him when he ran off again!
Jamm, great new website!
Clock is great feature as well.
