Sprite Backup Quietly Turns 6

And by quietly I mean that they locked the beta forums, sent out the registration keys for those that participated in the beta, changed the website a bit and that’s about all. No press release (yet), no hooting or hollering. Anyway… JOY!!! Sprite Backup 6 is now out. For those of you who have had issues with Windows Mobile 5/6 backups using Sprite this could definitely be a welcome upgrade over previous versions as they had more than a few participants in the beta and the majority of the participants did a complete hard reset to test out the product’s ability to restore you back to normal. I have to admit … it worked really well on my iPaq hx2495 (wm5) and my Treo 750 (wm6).

Anyway, if you don’t have Sprite Backup yet – go get it.

You can check out my review of version 5.2 for smartphone if you want some more information, or you can head on over to the Sprite website and give the trail a run. Depending on your needs the product will cost you either $19.95 for the lite version or $29.95 for the full version.

Don’t forget that Sprite Backup is also a JAM Essential Application, which is always 15% off at the JAMM store.

I was one of the beta testers and really liked the product and the features…it slices..it dices..it will backup to a ftp site….now my only question is…..where else can I sign up to beta test for free versions of the software?

Will Hard Reset for free stuff.

Many companies do similar things to this. It all depends on luck and timing as well as sometimes just knowing someone on the inside. Always helps if you’re already a customer too.

For example – Spb typically gives away a free license to beta testers. Get on their forums and ask around a bit … eventually someone will contact you.

SBSH does the same, but they are very closed in who beta tests and who doesn’t.

Some companies – like Astraware require a whole NDA signing and stuff like that. But look at the software they produce and you can see why they are tight lipped.

And some companies you could possibly just email support and ask to enroll in a beta program.

Good luck! I know everytime I’ve done a beta for a company they’ve been very appreciative and you’ll find once you get involved with helping out software companies they tend to get very involved with giving you good stuff too!!!

We’re turning up the volume on the release today. We are a techie company and generally don’t shout too much. Regarding beta testing, the work that beta testers do is absolutely invaluble to us. Verifying compatibility with 3rd party apps is essential, and devices with cooked-up ROMs and 30 apps installed push the boundaries and improve the product.

The bottom line is that Sprite Backup 6 is by FAR our best version yet. No other backup solution has the same capabilities or supports the same range of devices.
Details below, but don’t take our word for it. There is a free trial and testimonials at http://www.spritesoftware.com/testimonials

What’s NEW in Version 6?

• Support for backup to FTP servers for additional off-device data protection
• Support for WM 6 storage card encryption – recover after a hard reset
• Integrated support for creation of dedicated backup storage cards
• New user interface – supports all form factors
• Sprite Explorer is now bundled with Sprite Backup
• Full configuration control via PC Manager application.
• Common installer across all WM5 and WM6 platforms

What’s improved in Version 6?
• Data migration across ROM or device upgrades is now smarter
• Improved support for PIN locked devices
• Simplified password management for privacy protection
• Improved rules for managing backup exclusions
• Support for SIM locked devices
• PC Manager is now much more useful
• Integration of ease-of-use with powerful flexibility

Cheers,
Sean
