Golf Widows Beware
Posted by: Steve Laser on Jul 31 2007 - 817 viewsThe RGPS-3000, aka the Golf-widowmaker, is going to make a lot of husbands happy and many wives unhappy.

As if we needed another excuse to play golf…at least now we have a fighting chance. This awesome watch has a map of our favorite golf course and keeps track of our score. It goes for a paltry $215 (Korea). I wonder if it speaks like my car gps (nice shot, handsome!, you’re my hero). I might leave my wife for this watch - and I don’t even know if it tells time!

Clinton Is Unboxing and We Are There (Well, Not Really, But We Wish We Were and We Can Tell You All About It)
Posted by: dgoldring on Jul 30 2007 - 517 viewsYou know, here in what a lot of people call the blogosphere (a term which I never much cared for) we writers typically kick, bite, punch, and backstab in order to get an actual device to review. Ultimately, the last one standing will receive favor from the device manufacturer. Usually this entails being allowed to touch their hallowed new device…typically fro 30 days. Just enough time to realize how your life will never be the same without it and then send it back.
OK. Obviously, I am slightly exaggerating here. My point is, however, that it is really difficult to get a device to review. Typically, there are hundreds of reviewers scrambling to get their hands on only a few sample units. So, we, here at JAMM,
have to work extremely hard to get them. Because it can be so difficult to get a review unit, I was surprised to hear recently that our good friend Clinton Fitch at Clinton Fitch(dot)com recently received not one, but two brand new devices to review. In addition to the HTC Touch (right) which he unboxed last week, today, he is unboxing the T-Mobile Wing (above).
Of course, Clint seems to think both look like pretty cool devices. Like most HTC devices, Clint noted that both the Touch and the Wing (which is based on the HTC Herald) sport an amazing user interface, coupled with wofully inadequate memory.
Check out Clint’s unboxing of the HTC Touch and the T-Mobile Wing, and check back in the coming weeks for full reviews of both devices.

The Web IS Pocket Informant Review
Posted by: Judie on Jul 29 2007 - 5,241 viewsThere was a time when I used a Palm device exclusively. The PIM applications on it were so anemic, however, I was forced to find replacement programs for all of them. My favorite aftermarket software titles were DateBk, Contacts, Memo Plus, and ToDo Plus. Realizing that I felt the need to replace every single built-in PIM on my Palm device seems as funny now as it seemed necessary then, but I did it and was quite happy with the results.
When I started using a Pocket PC, I was more satisfied with the built-in PIMs than I had ever been with their Palm counterparts, but I had grown used to customizing every possible Datebook and Contact setting, and I wanted to be able to do the same on my Pocket PC. In late 2000, I tried Pocket Informant for the first time, and I liked what it allowed me to do. Don’t get me wrong, the program wasn’t perfect, but I liked it better than the competition, and it allowed much more customization than the built-in Calendar did; it even had one of the features I had liked so much in DateBk…category icons. Yeah, I was stylin’.
In June 2001, I attended the MS Mobility Tour & PPC FanFest in Dallas. While there I met Alex Kac, the developer behind the then current Pocket Informant2 version. While working the "Beam & Share" booth at the FanFest together, he and I had an opportunity to talk about what I did and didn’t like about the current incarnation of his program. Amidst the praise, one of my criticisms was that, "I had just about given up on [Pocket Informant 2] because it seemed so slow!! It really bothered me that if I made an entry it seemed to take forever for the program to refresh so that it could display the updated screen." I also groused about what I felt was a "missing" Today plugin. At the time, Alex was readying his release of PI3, and he told me that a lot of the issues I was experiencing would be addressed in that version. With the exception of the Today plugin, Alex totally came through.

Real Dice Hearts: The Game You Remember, In A Format You’ll Enjoy.
Posted by: dgoldring on Jul 29 2007 - 986 views
Part II:
Card Room
HEARTS
Hearts is a seemingly simple game which quickly wraps its tendrils around you, hooking you for eternity in its complexities like a designer drug of card games. I started playing when a mini-Hearts craze swept through my dorm during my freshman year in college, and have been addicted to the game ever since. Back in college, we had frequent all-night tournaments. We would play before class, after class, even during class. Heck, I can remember discussing games of Hearts and the strategy of the game on the way to class. The most memorable games, however, were those which took place in the back of the bus on the to school after winter break. Every time the bus turned, hit the brakes, or made any other sudden movements, cards would fly through the air, causing us to call an impromptu end to the round. I was thrilled when I learned that Real Dice shared my love of this game, and would be offering their own interpretation as part of the Real Dice World arcade. Of course, I had no choice but to instantly peg the game as the next stop on my tour of the Real Dice Card Room.

Palm Treo 750 WM6 ROM Leaked!!
Posted by: Brandon Steili on Jul 29 2007 - 2,191 viewsNow I’m not going to tell you where to get it … but I am going to tell you who is “discussing” it and let you go join the discussions at xda-developers. So far it looks like the ROM works well, seems stable and doesn’t hold much in the way of problems (yet).
Anyway quit reading about it here, because I’m heading over there!
