R.I.P. JAMM Forums

ripimage

Or maybe more like Good Riddance to ‘em right?

As very few of you will have probably noticed (since they were very rarely used anyway), we have chosen to terminate, kill off and ditch the JAMM Forums.

The reason they’re gone is that we are not, and have never been, a real forums site.  There are just far too many very good Mobile-related forums sites out there that do what they do incredibly well and have great communities.   I certainly admire people like Chris L. and all his superb moderators over at Aximsite and Mobility Site, just to name a couple (or one now that forums are merged).

Our effort in the forums area was always more than a little half-hearted.   We have not had the time or the resources to make the forums stand up to some of those great forum sites.

So … for now (never say never I guess) we’re going to stick to what we believe we’re pretty good at. Offering you mobile news, our opinions on all things mobile (and occasional Large Insect Stories), and some great reviews.

And … of course we hope that you’ll all keep telling us what you think though – via Comments and the Live Chat box here.

And don’t forget the remote controlled helicoptors…some of which are shaped like large insects. :)

Hey, that is the benefit of writing for a site like this. Sometimes, you can be completely irreverent…or even irrelevent as long as it is interesting. :)

Oh yeah, rest in peace (or in pieces) JAMM forums…or as I called them, the JAMM Spam Magnets.

Not a bad decision, the only thing that made me aware of the forums was the occasional e-mail that a new (spam) message was posted in the topic about the Cricket thingie (can’t remember exactly what it was, some not-yet-approved posts at the end). ;)

I agree that this isn’t a forums site, it’s about news and reviews which sometimes create a little discussion and after a couple of days/comments we move on and it’s part of the archive.

As for comments – I usually had a comment regarding the sidebar items, but I think that at the moment they are very well placed: the important ones at the top, te less important ones at the bottom, and some advertisement/store items inbetween.

The comments section works well, the chat too, and the post topics are well balanced for my interests! ;)
Keep up the great job. :)

They were here for about 6-8 months… but never really pushed or used often. It was a good idea, but it just never took off too well. Oh well. Maybe one day.

I was also unaware of the forums. Oh well, easy come easy go!
I’m actually looking for mobile-slanted forums to seek help from fellow mobile gadget lovers. I’m trying to replace my disk-on-key but cannot find a new device to meet my three requirements: 8GB, capless, built-in hardware security (either biometric/fingerprint recognition or something similar to Corsair’s Padlock).
Any fellow JAMMers know of something appropriate for me? I have found plenty of devices which meet two of these requirements so please only show me drives which meet all three.
