USA Today – Delivering the latest news via SMS

According to Experience Mobility, USA Today is joining up with 4INFO Inc. to provide an SMS news alert service for mobile users. Funded by advertising, this new service can provide the masses with text messages with stock quotes, sports results, and of course – the daily news! This is all accomplished by sending "44636 + keyword" of the desired topic you want to read about. This is all accomplished by sending an SMS message addressed to 4436 with the keyword of what you wish to receive.
Kristen McMullen says:
In the message you just type the keyword, such as "weather" plus your zip code, or a ticker symbol, or "yankees", and you get a text message back with the information you need.
It is unclear whether or not the "44636 + keyword" works across all carriers – and I don’t have a text plan to test it…anyone want to give it a shot? It has been reported also that this does work for nearly all carriers – so give it a shot today!
Thanks to Kristen McMullen of 4INFO for clarifying everything!

It does indeed work across nearly all carriers. But to clarify, you send/address the message to 44636. In the message you just type the keyword, such as “weather” plus your zip code, or a ticker symbol, or “yankees”, and you get a text message back with the information you need.

The problem I am having is that once I subscribed to this service, I can NOT stop it. I am bombarded by SMS from USA Today (USATTECH SMS service) now every 30 sec – 2 minutes. The SMS service stated that I can reply with “STOP” in the message body, but that doesn’t work.
Anyone can assist?

Chuck, I am contacting Kristen of 4Info on your behalf as I’m sure she would know how to get this thing to stop…

Thanks for contacting me! Sorry that’s happening to you, Chuck. Replying STOP after you get the message should do the trick, but since it isn’t, I’ll need to look into it a bit more. You can email me your cell phone number at kmcmullen (at) 4info (dot) com, or you can visit http://www.4info.net/logon.jsp and register your phone, then check and disable your subscriptions there. I’ve registered for the USA Today service myself now and I’ll be testing to see if I can figure out why the feed is coming so often.

Hi all,
I don’t know what happened exactly but I was trully bombarded by the messages. I can only stop it by contacting my carrier to ban all messages coming from 4INfo address. After 1 day, I lifted the ban and sent the STOP messages again about 3 times then FINALLY I receivd confirmation that 4Info will stop sending the messages.
