Card Room
Blackjack
When I was in high school, my friends and I used to gather in the basement for regular Blackjack games. A lot of people preferred other games (back in those pre-Texas Hold ‘em days it was often five or seven card draw), but I always gravitated toward Blackjack. I loved the dual nature of the game. On the one hand, it was an incredibly simple game. All you have to be able to do is count to 21. Get closer to 21 than the dealer and you win. That’s all there is to it. On the other hand, Blackjack is a deceptively complex game which requires a great deal of strategy and cunning. Unlike many card games, winning depends much more upon your own internal evaluation of the game and decision making abilities, rather than luck of the draw. Additionally, unlike many games, although many players may sit in on a Blackjack hand, the only cards that matter are yours and the dealer’s. You are not competing against any of the other players. Although they may complicate your decision making process, ultimately, the game is reduced to each player competing in individual and parallel hands with the dealer.

Posted by: dgoldring on Jun 29 2007 - 462 viewsThis is just a short post to announce the winners of the SplashData contest. I apologize for my brevity, but it is late and I am tired (and still have one more review to finish.) So, without further delay, let’s get to the winners. If I call your name, please stand. Everyone else, please hold your applause until the end of the announcement. The winners of the SplashData contest are:
Knook, Weiganla, and Kelvin
Congratulations to the winners, you should each be watching for an email from JAMM this weekend. To those who did not win, thanks for participating, and don’t fret too much. There is still plenty of time to enter the SBSH contest, and we will have more great contests kicking off next week. Finally, of course, thank you to SplashData for sponsoring this contest each month.

2007 Nominations for Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine’s Best Software Awards are Ready for Public Feedback
Posted by: dgoldring on Jun 29 2007 - 840 views
I am pretty excited right now. For the first time, I am a judge in the Smartphone & Pocket PC’s Best Software Awards. These awards serve two purposes. In addition to honoring the developers of some of the top Pocket PC software available, they also help users select the best Pocket PC and Smartphone applications, utilities, and games for their devices.
Throughout June, Nominations Manager, Werner (“Menneisyys”) Ruotsalainen, and the 2007 Board of Experts developed the nominations list. I know that many of the judges, including myself, spent a considerable amount of time scrutinizing the list and making recommendations to ensure that only the best software was nominated. Now, the preliminary list of Windows Mobile Windows Mobile nominations are ready for public viewing and comment.
We at JAMM are posting a link to the list of nominees so that all of our readers (whether you are a software user, developer, or both), can review them and suggest additional nominations. Nominations will be accepted from June 29, 2007 through July 13, 2007. The list will change daily as nominations are approved, programs are recategorized, or even removed from the list, until July 20, when nominations will be frozen.
To suggest a particular program for nomination, simply use the nominations form. Werner Ruotsalainen will make final determination on each suggestion www.pocketpcmag.com/survey/nominationsfeedback.htm ). You can also check out the Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine Forum to discuss nominations.
