By definition, a backup is someone who saves you when things have gone awry.  In sports, the backups come in to play when the starters are tired or injured.  In a war, the backups (cavalry) come in to save the battle weary troops.  In computers, a backup protects and saves your data from a catastrophic failure.  This is particularly important in the Pocket PC realm, where a failure could mean the loss of significant and critical data.
